Halloween Eve Hacker Quickly Thwarted
On Oct 20th 2010, a Security Advisory was announced for a vulnerability in GLibC. Late last night, an attacker used that vulnerability and a couple of compromised Go Daddy customer SSH accounts to upload and execute the code.
Customers with sites hosted on one of three compromised Go Daddy servers may have seen that their sites displayed a “Hacked by” page on load. Once the issue was found, Go Daddy security and hosting teams worked quickly to clean up the affected accounts and apply patches to all Go Daddy servers to keep more customers from being affected. Preventative measures have also been put into place to keep the attackers from using the same methods to upload malicious code to Go Daddy servers.
