What is the best way to sync and share with iCal and my GoDaddy calendar?

I have followed the tech support articles on syncing and sharing and it isn’t clear. I have called tech support and they said, “too bad, we don’t support third party apps”. Seriously? I see where there is a button for “external calendars” in my online Go Daddy calendar and GoDaddy can’t provide me with support?

I am running 10.6.8 (not Lion) and iCal 4.0.4 and CalDAV won’t work despite following the sync instructions.

On the main screen it says, “There was a problem accessing this account”.

How should this best be configured so I can sync from my local calendar to my GoDaddy calendar and share that with others?

Online Calendar does support iCal on Mac OS X and Calendar on the iPhone/iPad.

To set up your account in Mac OS 10.6,

1. Go to iCal -> Preferences…
2. Go to Accounts and click + to add
3. Set Account Type to “CalDav”
4. Put in your account username and password
5. The Server Address is : caldav.secureserver.net
6. Click “Create”

That should connect and sync your Personal Calendar to iCal. We do not current support syncing of group/shared calendars.

That is how it is configured.

Main window for account configuration says, “Availability, There was a problem accessing the availability for this account.”

In the Server settings Use SSL is checked, Port is Auto
Server path shows as: /principals/users/xxxxxxxxxx/
The xxxxxxxx is my user name at GoDaddy. But this server path looks incomplete to me, is that all that should be there?

Do I need to do something else on the GoDaddy calendar side?

Where exactly is this supposed to be synced? Doesn’t seem like it is doing anything anywhere?

That sounds like it’s configured properly. You can try changing the port number to 8443. Other than that, just double-check your username and password. Your username is your full email address.

Changed port. Double checked user name and password.

Still no go. Same error message.

Should the “full name” field (below user name and pw fields) contain my full name or my user name? I do not see where I can change this on my end as the full name is hard-wired in.

Is there nothing I should be doing on the GoDaddy end to sync with the calendars I get with my hosting account? That was what I was trying to do.

I’m unsure what the issue is. I’ve run through those same steps several times to verify them and it’s worked every time. It does sound like it authenticated properly at one time because you are seeing your name and the connection URL (the /principals/…).

The “external calendars” feature is for using your calendar with a service that doesn’t support CalDav (which iCal does), like Google Calendar.

I would recommend that in iCal you remove the CalDav account and try to re-add it following the steps I listed. If you continue to have an issue you can contact customer support and they can work with you and escalate as necessary to look specifically at your account.
