Due to SOPA Support (see ref) I’m leaving in 2012
gonein2012 said 1 year, 5 months ago:
SOPA threatens the core of the internet and causes a chilling effect to free speech as websites such as Youtube and Facebook become liable for their user’s copyright infringement and must sensor speech for fear of getting shut down. Due to GoDaddy’s support, I will be taking my 22 domains to another provider within the coming week. GoDaddy’s support of SOPA from judiciary gov site: “Go Daddy has a long history of supporting federal legislation directed toward combating illegal conduct on the Internet. For example, our company strongly supported the Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2008, the Protect Our Children Act of 2008, and the Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act of 2011 (PROTECT IP). ”

@gonein2012
Thank you for taking the time to post your comment. As many Forum Members have inquired about our position on SOPA, below is a link to a statement published this past October by Go Daddy Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary Christine Jones.

I would like to add I will also be moving my business elsewhere as soon as possible due to godaddy.com’s support for SOPA.
This is an entirely unacceptable and indefensible position.

I already started moving my domains away.

same here, i am moving all my hosting, ssl certificates and domain names else where due to godaddy’s support of SOPA, and i am not even an american.

I will be moving all my domains and contacting all my clients to offer them free transfers. This is more than offensive that GoDaddy supports such destructive acts. I am ashamed of you GoDaddy and will never be returning.

as will I. I’ve set up my account with a competitor and will be transferring my names on 12/29. Sorry GoDaddy, you’ve been good through the years but I can’t stay with a company that has such a narrow view of the impact of this issue.

Seconded, I read the link from your EVP above – I’m just not convinced. When every beloved internet company is anti-SOPA and the entirety of the internet community is anti-SOPA, how can godaddy support it “with modifications”? If you can’t establish a coalition around those modifications, it’s just a wink and a nod. Don’t think it’s inline with the customer demographic, don’t want my money supporting it at all.

While I only operate a few personal domains, I will be moving them elsewhere. The support of SOPA is baffling enough but the response that basically said “We know people are upset, we just don’t care because we are stacking the papers, yo.” is what convinced me.

I currently manage over 1,000 domains for a large publishing firm. Due to GoDaddy’s support for SOPA and condescending arrogance towards those who want to keep the internet uncensored by corporate thugs, I am not going to renew any of my services with godaddy and will never do business with them again.

I have been a customer with this company for a very long time. However, your support of SOPA and your sneering dismal of concerns of your support, brought to you by your customers, have forced me to leave with all of my current and future business.
For what it matters, I will also not attend the GoDaddy.com bowl or your sponsored parade in Mobile, Alabama.
I’m disgusted at the thought of how long I’ve supported your company.

I only have a handfull of domains on godaddy, but i too will be moving them to another service. One that does not support SOPA. Sorry GoDaddy, you have been great but i can’t stand by you on this issue.
