Hello all, I recently have created a full website for my machinery business. I created the HTML file and I can view everything on my computer perfectly. All links, pictures, etc. worked fine. Then I tried to publish my HTML on Website tonight, all my links were lost in cyberspace and none of the pictures were there. Is there a way to have just my HTML that has already been created and looks fine to look and work in website tonight? It feels as though I have to start from scratch to publish my already finished HTML page?

Most likely, the problem is that the elements within the HTML is not being referenced properly. If the HTML references any images, the images will need to be uploaded into WebSite Tonight as a file and then will need to be referenced through the uploads directory (i.e. yourdomain.com/uploads/yourimage.jpg).

Ideally, you’ll want to make all design changes to your site using the WebSite Tonight editor so adding your own custom HTML will be a bit more difficult. Feel free to post the URL of the site if you still have difficulty getting the page to display properly.

If you’d rather use your own HTML or a 3rd party site builder to create the entire site, you’ll want to move to a hosting account.

I have a hosting account for the 1.99 with Godaddy. I have already coded my HTML site. How can I publish my HTML site? Cost?

@mckaymachinery

If you already have a hosting account setup with the domain, you can use the article included below to upload your HTML files to your hosting account.

“Uploading Files to Your Website (FTP)”

Alright, I now have all of my files uploaded onto my account (both Godaddy and Filezilla). All that is left to be done is hit the publish button. Trouble is I cannot find it! Any help?

@mckaymachinery

If you have uploaded your files to your hosting plan, you do not have a publish button to make the site live. Instead you will need to ensure you have a valid index file which will serve as your homepage:

The site is up, but I found one critical error. The site only shows up online (I tried it with an ipod) when you type in “MckayMachinery.com/index.htm” is there a way to fix it so the address is at JUST “MckayMachinery.com”? Thank for all of your help thus far sir, I don’t know what I would do without the helpful forums! :)

If you are using a Linux shared hosting plan, you can use the steps in this help article to easily set up a redirect that will address this issue for you:

http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/5120

I took a moment to check out your site and I wanted to let you know that I received a 404 Error Page. You may want to review where you uploaded your files as you may have placed them within a directory other than your root. If you need to move your files back to your root, you can use this article:

Alright, the site is not online. I have the files uploaded to both the Web Hosting Client on Godaddy and on Filezilla and neither client is working. All files are there and I do have a valid Default.htm file. I am not sure but whenever I search for “mckaymachinery.com” it comes up as HTTP 403 Forbidden. The was company who had rights to the site before. I created all of the new HTML files and tried to redirect the URL to the “mckaymachinery.com” and that’s when it would not let me view the site online. It says that you must log on to view the site, and I am thinking that must mean they still have the rights to the URL? Also even when I type out “mckaymachinery.com/default.htm” it comes up as Mediacom’s “Domain not found” page. Any help on getting the site live under the URL “mckaymachinery.com”?

@mckaymachinery – Are you using Website Tonight or regular hosting?

If you have a complete HTML website web hosting is the way to go, as Website Tonight is a website builder.

With web hosting you should only need to upload the files once, no need to use FileZilla and the online FTP here.

Your homepage should have a default file name and uploaded to the Root directory.

That does not necessarily answer my question. I need my website online at the moment and I have the files uploaded you are saying that I have to upload my files but then you mention that there is no need for Filezilla or online FTP. That does not make sense to me, where else would I upload my files to if not there?

@mckaymachinery

Your domain name is correctly configured to resolve to your hosting plan with our company. You will want to continue to upload your website files using either an FTP client or our File Manager. I was able to confirm that you do not yet have a valid index file uploaded and this is the cause of the error you are receiving. Once you get an index file uploaded you should be all set.

I have uploaded my index.htm file about 4 different times now, none of the times has it worked. the index file is the exact same file type as my homepage mckaymachinery.html yet it is not working? Any more help? All files are uploaded onto both the FTP file manager AND Filezilla. Yet neither are working to put my website online.

@mckaymachinery

Our Support Team can look at your file structure and determine the cause of your index file not being recognized. I would advise that you contact them with your account information for additional troubleshooting.
