I purchased my domain, now what?
deathbysarcasm said 1 year, 1 month ago:
Can anyone tell me where I can find some user-friendly guides to help get me started? I am creating my website on Dreamweaver but I don’t know how to upload the website to the server. I just purchased the domain name (and hosting – which i don’t know if i even needed it or not – they don’t explain that in the sales department) and I don’t even know where to go to get started. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

@deathbysarcasm
Yes, you will need both a domain and hosting plan to host a Dreamweaver website. First, you will want to setup your hosting account with the domain name:
Setting up Your Hosting Account
Once the hosting plan is setup, you will be able to upload the website to the hosting account through Dreamweaver:
Third-Party Website Creation and FTP Documentation for Your Shared Hosting Account
Let us know if you have any trouble getting the site up and running!

Well, here’s where I’m getting stuck. I bought my domain name. I purchased hosting space (whatever that is). And I’m creating my page on Dreamweaver. That’s all I know. I don’t know what to do to get my website up online because there are not detailed step-by-step user friendly instructions that tell me what to do to get to the next step. I want to put my website up. That’s where I have problems. I don’t know where to start. All of the links that are provided are too hard to understand. We need user friendly instructions.

I am also stuck, I have created my site with dreamweaver, and upload it with filezilla, but when I go to my url, it shows the parked site that was made with instantpage. Is there an easy way to see if I linked my host server to my domain correctly?

I go to upload my site to the server and i follow all of the instructions (which were clearly written for an earlier version because they tell you to click this and click that, but those buttons are nonexistent) and when i type in the web address, nothing. i still get the generic page that’s the placeholder for new websites. GoDaddy is certainly not all it’s hyped up to be.
megaskifree said 1 year, 1 month ago:
Yea, it’s definitely not what I thought at all. And all the YouTube videos make it even more difficult being out of date. It’s also hard to tell whats going on because it is supposed to take an hour to 24 hours to complete changes. I’m not sure if what I’ve done works or not.

@megaskifree
If you see the the InstantPage site when you go to your domain, this indicates that the domain is not pointing to the hosting account. You will want to update the domain’s A record to point to the IP address of the hosting account.
How do I find the IP address of my hosting account?
Managing DNS for Your Domain Name

If you are currently seeing the generic ‘coming soon’ page, it sounds like you were able to get the hosting account setup. You are not required to use GoDaddy.com interface to upload the site. If you feel more comfortable with Dreamweaver, you are welcome to upload the site directly from Dreamweaver. You can find Dreamweaver tutorials at:

I have tried to set it up through GoDaddy, which didn’t work. so i tried to link it through Dreamweaver, and it’s still not working. I continue to get the generic ‘coming soon’ page. Do you guys offer full refunds? This site is not helpful at all.

Also, those links you posted are tutorials from Dreamweaver 2003. ? I need something that will work for CS5.

Is there a user help guide that shows the exact info that needs to be entered into the remote site setup? for example, the info needed to set up the FTP thingie?

When I try to set up the server stuff through Dreamweaver, i get an error messasge that reads:
An FTP error occurred – cannot make connection to host. Dreamweaver cannot connect to host “ftp.deathbysarcasm.com” This may be due to one of more of the following reasons: -The network cable is unplugged or the network is down. Please verify that the network cable is connected and that the network is up (clearly my network is fine because i’m using the internet to write you.) – The FTP server is down. Please verify that you can connect to the FTP server using another FTP program. (clearly the server is NOT down because other people are able to upload their websites to it.) – The FTP host name is incorrect. Please verify that the host name is correct in the Site definition dialog box (i am using the info that your customer service reps provided to me for the address.) – Accessing the server requires proxy settings that aren’t properly set. Please verify that the proxy settings in the Site category of the Preferences dialog box are properly set, and that the Use Proxy option in the Site definition dialog box is selected. (i have NO CLUE what that means.) – It is possible your FTP may be using a non-standard FTP port (21). If you need to specify a nonstandard port, enter the port number after the host name separated by a colon : (i have NO CLUE what that means.) I just followed the directions that the customer service rep told me to do and it doesn’t work. And the fact that the customer service response time is slow doesn’t help either.

also, when i navigate to FTP file manager, i get an error message instantly that reads: ERROR: COULD NOT GET DIRECTORY INFO. ???
Is someone from customer service available to resolve the issues on your website?
