I receive an error indicating I do not have permission to change/replace a file. When I change the permissions (And I am in the Domain User) I still get the same error. I cannot add a file! This drives me nuts. I already added a whole website and now I cannot add the logo. I’ve tried FTP, SFTP, SSH, and File Manager in Simple Control Panel.

Adding a file error(s):
———————–
FTP Error: No Access and when there’s no error there is no results.

SFTP Error: No response

SSH Error: There will be a error with the files location (not exactly that way but it’s something close to that)

Simple Control Panel Error:
———————-
We are sorry, the system has encountered an error while processing your request.

Home

If you continue to receive this error, please contact your system administrator.

Your URL: /filemanager/newfile-upload.do

Error details:

CommandFailedException: Error creating file: Unable to create new file: Permission denied (4)
at c.g.t.f.systems.filemanager.LinuxFileManagerSubsystem.createFile:532
at c.g.t.w.actions.filemanager.ActionFileManagerNewFileUpload.process:76

at c.g.t.w.filters.AuthorizedResourceFilter.doFilter:38

at c.g.t.w.filters.RequestPopulationFilter.doFilter:117

————————-

FTP doesn’t allow me to move files in, replace, or around. SSH allows me to delete, but cannot add or replace files. SFTP same results as FTP.

I spoke with Server chat – no luck – ticket posted – nothing.

Exact error for SSH/SFTP when using “put” function to upload from computer to server is:

“Patterns may only occur in the file part of the path”

Also Receiving an error from Joomla! site configuration. When changing any field or just saving the already current fields in Global Configuration – I get the following error: “An Error has occurred! Unable to open configuration.php file to write!”. I set the permissions to 755. This should not be happening unless error with the server (Which i am definitely having)

@TunerTop

Were you able to get this addressed with our Server Support department? From what you provided it sounds like everything should be working. The error seems to indicate there is something in the filename which may be causing an issue. Can you provide the actual filename you are trying to use, or does this occur with any file?

Tried in multiple ways, and posted a ticket a few days ago. Nothing yet. No response and not working still.

We are talking about a dedicated linux server here, right ?

Well, main question here is how are you logging on? A lot depends on the way how you setup your environment but in the overall I’d say this is good news instead of bad news since it does mean that your website is properly protected (there is always a risk if you can “just” overwrite it).

Commonly speaking I’d say you’re using the wrong upload account.

But why not simply upload your changes somewhere else (in someone’s own directory), then logon to your server and simply put the files manually into place?

Sounds much easier and much more safe to me.

Yes, we are on the dedicated linux.

I do like how secure it is (a little to secure), however I cannot move/add/edit files at all. I am using the domain control account mainly, but I tried all 3 (I have 3 active accounts not including root), and with SSH I used su root since I could not login as root even with the correct credintials. No matter how I try I cannot change, add or edit any file.

Methods Tried: Standard FTP (Windows Folder), FileZilla FTP Client, SFTP via SecureCRT, SSH via the Simple Control Panel, SSH via SecureCRT, and Manage Files via Simple Control Panel.

I tried all these with each account, and with SSH: I also did su root which allows me to delete files, but not replace them; however the only way I know to put a file on the server(ssh/sftp style) via upload is with sftp command “put [location/file.type] [destination]. This shows the file being uploaded but displays an error mentioning the destination does not exist (I did put it in correct and in every way possible). Then I discovered that when it does not find the destination – it defaults and uploads to the beginning directory: “ftp.sharesupport.net/”

By the way – I tried moving the file that was uploaded to the beginning directory “ftp.sharesupport.net/” to the dir. where I wanted it and no luck. I tried via Simple Control Panel

Forgot to mention, I am using Joomla source and when saving changes in global configuration, it prompts an error mentioning it cannot write to the file configuration.php, which I changed permissions to full access (I changed back to semi restricted) with the same error occuring. So not only can I not make changes on the server, the website cannot either. (Kind of funny if you think about it)

I appreciate the help.

(I need to learn how to just put it all in 1 post so I stop wasting the moderators time)

@TunerTop

You may want to review your Permissions within Simple Control Panel. Also you will want to attempt to upload files within Simple Control Panel and forward that error message to server support if you are still having problems. Below are some helpful articles you will want to review to ensure everything is properly configured.

http://support.godaddy.com/help/2323

http://support.godaddy.com/help/2234

http://support.godaddy.com/help/2318

http://support.godaddy.com/help/4633

Again you are going to want to Focus on Uploading the Content through Simple Control panel. Once you can get that to work with the correct credentials and permissions it may be easier to troubleshoot the other connection issues or they may resolve themselves.
