How do I get control of my domains?
thunderpoet said 2 years, 1 month ago:
When I opened an account here last month I bought one domain and asked for domain transfer for 5 domain names I have already owned for years. 2 of those domains are hosted and they are hosted at 1and1.com.
Those domain names were renewed in 2010 at my domain name Registrar HomepageUniverse.com. They should still be active–not needing to be renewed until August 2011 in one case and not until October 2011 in the other cases.
The FIRST thing I wanted from my GoDaddy account is to switch the DOMAIN REGISTRAR from Homepage Universe TO GoDaddy.
The only place in all of my options inside my GoDaddy account seemed to be DNS Manager.
I put in for domain transfer for all five accounts. Homepage Universe just emailed me today, weeks later, and said that I no longer have those domain names in my HomepageUniverse domain name cart.
But when I come to my account at GoDaddy I have nothing but a “Pending transfer” in each account.
I NEED to get domain control of my domains with my GoDaddy account.
But, 2 of those domain names have to continue to be hosted at 1and1.com–the DNS server information must remain at 1and1 until I am ready to transfer to another server and close out my 1and1 account.
HOW do I let GoDaddy know that I want these 5 domains names transferred to GoDaddy as the REGISTRAR?
Particularly since I want to renew them as domain names from my GoDaddy account from now on?

@thunderpoet
The option offered in the DNS Manager is intended to allow you to setup your DNS settings prior to completing a transfer, but is not a domain transfer in itself. If you are wanting to move your domains to us, check out the instructions available here:

NO. I have been sent this link before.
What I get is not what is described.
Those instructions do not match with my account.
There is no “Pending transfers” that I can click to go to what you describe.
I see those domains only if I go to the LIVE DNS Manager and there is no way to get to the authorization procedure described in your help document.

Sorry for any confusion. The directions are correct, but my guess is that you are missing the most important part. Like it states in the article, before you can transfer a domain you have to purchase the transfer request. My guess is that you haven’t done so, hence the inability to proceed any further with the process. You can purchase transfers from this page:

I have followed instructions now for Add Off-site DNS.
I have the authorization codes for these domain names that I obtained from my domain account with HomepageUniverse (who evidently was a reseller for -Tucows).
I saved all the authorization codes weeks ago the day I opened my GoDaddy account. But GoDaddy and HomepageUniverse have me in limbo land at the moment because HomepageUniverse has now removed these 5 accounts from my domain registration account.
I cannot go into that my account there to continue any authorization requests from GoDaddy.
So, I have the authorization codes READY TO USE if GoDaddy allows me to get to the point where I have a “Pending Transfer” status that I can click on to move on to the authorization process.
thunderpoet said 2 years, 1 month ago:
Now I have tried that, which is what I thought I did originally a month ago. I filled in all five domain names and GoDaddy reports that all five are “unavailable for transfer”.
How do I get around this round-robin Catch-22?
thunderpoet said 2 years, 1 month ago:
I thought that I had done that when I opened my account. But now I am told that those 5 domains names are “unavailable” for domain transfers.
I thought one purpose for opening an account was that I would be able to do things inside my account differently than someone on the outside. Why as a client in my account panel can’t I put in the authorization codes and what is needed at the time that I request a domain REGISTRATION?
I am being locked out of transferring my own domain names to GoDaddy, which is the prime reason I opened up an account in the first place.
I have written to the Support Staff about the issue.
I need to get this done before I have to leave town and be on the road when one of these domains expires in a week.

I have regained access to my domain cart at Homepageuniverse and went to the five domains I want to transfer to GoDaddy.
I modified the nameservers for each. I have yet to see “pending transfer” status change at my GoDaddy account for these 5.
Will GoDaddy be smart enough to CHARGE me automatically now?
I cannot go through the regular purchase process apparently.
I have the authorization codes but I already used my authority at the original name server account to change the name servers on each domain name to
mns01.domaincontrol.com
?mns02.domaincontrol.com

What are the domains you are trying to transfer? Normally the ‘unavailable for transfer’ message would indicate that there are already active transfers or that the domains are already in an account with us. If you can provide the domains we can determine why you would not be able to purchase the transfers. Thanks!
thunderpoet said 2 years, 1 month ago:
Apparently today I am allowed to purchase transfers. So I purchased 5 transfers.
Then I discover that the Admin contact email is “protected” at Tucows.
Although my hosting panel at HomepageUniverse– the original location where I paid for these 5 domains to be registered– has my correct email listed, it is changed at Tucows which is the actual home registrar.
So, GoDaddy’s process tells me that all of the authorization emails it is sending out are going to email addresses that START with the domain name followed by @contactprivacy.com.
I have been back to my HomepageUniverse account but there is no place to “un-privatize” the contact emails so that GoDaddy picks up my actual email address.
Yet, I ALREADY HAVE THE AUTHORIZATION CODES IF GODADDY WOULD JUST ALLOW ME TO ENTER THEM.
thunderpoet said 2 years, 1 month ago:
In my account here I described my situation, listed my domains, and gave the authorization codes from HomepagUniverse in my domain name account there. Those are the same codes that GoDaddy will ask from me during the Authorization transfer process.
I need to get this done now.
I don’t know IF the email addresses GoDaddy is sending authorization requests to will be forwarded to me as part of the “privacy” service that TuCows provided.
But I already have those “private authorization codes” ready to put input to complete the Domain Transferral.
I have not received a response from Customer Service regarding the information and the codes I supplied to them.

Here are the steps to transfer from a Tucows reseller:
http://products.secureserver.net/products/domain_transfers/transfer_domain_tucows_reseller.pdf
(has info on Changing Administrative Contact Information)
You will also need codes from Go Daddy, they will send them to the Admin Contact when the transfer is initiated.
thunderpoet said 2 years, 1 month ago:
I had to renew the domain registrations at HomepageUniverse yesterday because it did not look like what I thought I had requested a month ago at GoDaddy is going to happen in time.
Meanwhile, I have now been in correspondence with Tucows, waiting to see when they will put my Owner/Registrant email address back into the whois information so that GoDaddy request authorization emails go to the email address that I can respond to.
However, now I am getting news from 1and1.com, where two of my domains are hosted, that the nameserver has been changed to the godaddy names servers, even though in my panel here at godaddy I made the godaddy name server the 4th and 5th, not the 1rst and 2nd name server.
Please answer this question:
I JUST WANT GODADDY as the REGISTRAR of my domain names, not Tucows.
When the term “domain transfer” is used here at GoDaddy it seems to take for granted that all things are “domain transfers” and that the domain “transfer” does not happen unless the A Record also shows godaddy nameservers.
HOW, once and FOR ALL, do I KEEP the the same HOSTING SERVER information as it is now, while creating an updating of Registrar services from Tucows to GoDaddy, without taking down the hosting name resolution information that sends domain names to the 1and1 hosting servers?
I do not at any time want my purchased domain transfers at godaddy to route my currently ONLINE domains to a holding address at godaddy.
Nate D said 2 years, 1 month ago:

You do not need Go Daddy nameservers or A record to complete a transfer. If you only want to use 1and1 DNS then they should be your only nameserver addresses, remove the others as that can cause problems.

The article I posted shows step-by-step how to do a domain transfer from Tucows reseller to Go Daddy:
http://products.secureserver.net/products/domain_transfers/transfer_domain_tucows_reseller.pdf

When you purchase the transfers there should be the option to set the nameservers (for once it is transfered). Only put in the appropriate addresses from 1and1.

A domain transfer is only moving from one registrar to another, anything else does have a different name. It seems like you are getting a lot of incorrect information, but I have no clue where you are getting it from.

So follow the steps at:
http://products.secureserver.net/products/domain_transfers/transfer_domain_tucows_reseller.pdf

That is the article for your specific situation, if you have any troubles post questions specific to that article.
