Hi,

My domain name is registered with godaddy, hosted elsewhere.

I want to change the name servers to a new authoritative nameserver without any getting any downtime. So that i activate DKIM for that i purchased Premium DNS.

But none of my domains are showing up in the Premium DNS.

How do I add the domain to premium DNS and how can i set authoritative nameserver without having any downtime???

@y13hargav,

In order for the Domain to be added to the Premium DNS manager the Nameservers do need to be set to the Premium DNS Nameservers. This will create the Zone File and associate the Domain appropriately within the Premium DNS Manager. When modifying the DNS for any Domain there is always going to be some Down Time associated with this change as the information will need to propagate to severs through the world. The following should assist:

Upgrading to Premium DNS

In Domain Details -
DNS Manager
DNS Manager: Not hosted here

In the article posted its given -

If you are using Premium DNS with domain names registered elsewhere, you must update the nameservers for those domain names with your registrar.
You can find your domain names’ nameservers in the NS (Nameserver) section of the Zone File Editor. To access the Zone File Editor from the Premium DNS Dashboard, click Edit Zone for the domain name you want to view.

The nameservers you must use are in the following ranges:

[pdns01-pdns13].domaincontrol.com
[pdns02-pdns14].domaincontrol.com

Can i just add godaddy NS as Nameserver 3 & 4 and after propagation is finished i removed original NS and move godaddy NS to Nameserver 1 & 2 will there be any downtime.

@y13hargav – That is not how it works. Each time you change the nameservers there would be time for it to propagate.

During propagation visitors would either get the old nameservers or the new nameservers. So if both nameservers have the same DNS settings it should minimize any downtime (that is if you do go with the transfer templates).

@y13hargav – have you found a solution for this? I have the same issue. I have multiple domains on GD with DNS elsewhere and I’m being told that I need to purchase the Prem DNS package to configure my DNS to eliminate downtime. Seems like even doing that is not going to eliminate any chance of downtime.

This is crazy that you can’t create your DNS zones prior to changing the name servers.
