I have the deluxe hosting package, with my primary domain being lets say firstdomain.com. I have wordpress installed on the root folder (/), so when i type firstdomain.com in the URL bar, it goes to it no problem. I added a second domain, seconddomain.com, to my hosting. I put the folder as seconddomain.com/seconddomain when I added it. I want to install wordpress on this second domain. Keep in mind these domains are COMPLETELY separate. nothing to do with each other.

When I use the GoDaddy Hosting Connection to install wordpress on seconddomain.com, everything is fine until I choose the install directory. I cannot leave it blank as firstdomain.com is already using that. So i must enter something. After I do, the only way to access my site is by going to seconddomain.com/whatever I put in for the install directory. I dont want that. I want it to be installed on seconddomain.com, that is all. When I type in seconddomain.com, nothing comes up, because nothing is there. I have to type in seconddomain.com/whatever I put for install directory. it wont let me leave it blank since firstdomain.com is already using the default / install directory.

Any advice?

When you install Wordpress through the Go Daddy Hosting Connection in the Linux hosting environment, you will see all of the domain’s associated with your hosting account. If you choose a secondary domain that is already setup with it’s own folder with the hosting account, our system knows what folder that particular domain is setup with. If you leave the directory field blank, our system will install Wordpress into the root directory for that particular domain. It will not install Wordpress into the root of your entire hosting plan unless you choose the primary domain name.

Installing WordPress on Your Hosting Account

If you have a Windows hosting plan, you’ll want to install Wordpress manually for each of the secondary domains.

I understand that. However, I want my wordpress to be installed to my 2nd domains actual URL. ex, I want it on seconddomain.com, not seconddomain/ anything.

Choose an unused installation directory, and then click Next. For example, if you want your WordPress website to display when someone goes to yourdomainname.com/blog then blog is the installation directory.

If you want your WordPress website to display when someone goes directly to your domain name, remove any text from this field and leave it empty.

That is on the post you gave me. So alright, those directions are easy enough. I want my wordpress to display when someone goes directly to seconddomain.com. So i should leave the field blank. When I do this, it says the path is already in use, because I left it blank when setting up my first domain, because i also wanted my wordpress to display when someone visits firstdomain.com. I actually dont see why anyone would want their wordpress site to display on anything other than their domain name. Adding /blahblahblah defeats the purpose of having a domain name, because you are not utilizing it. In that effect, your “domain” becomes not seconddomain.com, but rather seconddomain.com/blahblahblah.

Sorry for my frustration, I have been trying to get this for 2 days now, with no help on the wordpress forums.

@johng88

We allow our customers to choose an install directory so our users can use a site builder of their choice for their main site and then create a Wordpress site in a different directory for a blog. It sounds like you may not have the secondary domain name setup with it’s own folder. You’ll want to check to make sure the secondary domain is not setup with the root of your hosting account.

Managing Your Hosting Account Domains

If the secondary domain is setup with the root folder, you will receive an error when you attempt to leave the directory field blank because you already have Wordpress setup with the primary domain. Once the secondary domain is setup with its own folder, you should no longer receive the error during the installation when you leave the directory field blank.

If the domain is already setup with its own directory and you continue to receive this error, you’ll want to get in touch with our 24 hour support team so our tech guys can review your hosting account specifically.
