Good Day,

I’ve change the nameserver for a go daddy domain. It has been over 24 hours yet the domain still hasn’t propagated. It normally doesn’t take this long. I’ve pinged the domain name and it still show the old ip address – whats going on?

@smartwill,

Could you provide the domain name in question and the nameservers you were trying to direct this to?

Hi Chris – Thanks for the speedy response – the domain is davidmuirhead.com and the nameservers are: ns1.smartdesign.co.za and ns2.smartdesign.co.za

@smartwill,

Looking over the domain name through public DNS testing confirms the domain pointed to the nameservers you have listed above. I have also verified the IP it currently resolves to is 50.116.84.21.

I have also confirmed through browser testing that the domain is resolving to custom site content without any issue. If you are still seeing our parked pages, you may be experiencing browser caching. Try clearing this and then revisiting the domain to see if the results update on your end.

I have check both domains davidmuirhead.co.uk and davidmuirhead.com on two separate computers and cleared my cache on this machine.

I still see godaddy branding on davidmuirhead.co.uk

On davidmuirhead.com this is the site on the old server.

Could it be possible that there is a delay due to me being in South Africa? Is it even possible?

@smartwill,

Just retested davidmuirhead.com as well as davidmuirhead.co.uk. Both are currently resolving to the same site pages. I was also able to confirm the same results testing through a few Proxy services that can be found through your preferred search engine. If you check through similar services through your end, you may see the same results they are getting as well.

As for there being a delay due to being in South Africa, this could be a possibility. We generally advise a 24-48 hour period for propagation to complete. Though most often the results can be seen a few hours after making the DNS changes, in some instances it can take this full period before you may see the results.

Hi Chris – Thank you for retesting – initially the .co.uk address was a separate site however i’ve now parked it onto the .com – I have also tested and see exactly the same details as you. I think we can close this topic as it’s obviously a delay due to me being half way across the globe in South Africa. I will re-test tomorrow evening if the problem persists i may return to the forum to rack some additional brains.

Thanks again.
William
