hi everyone,
i really need help with my site.
http://www.whirlydogsupplies.com
i want to start of by saying (yes, i know i don’t have a lot of product for sale yet, but adding items daily)
i have been on and off the phone with godaddy, which by the way they are very helpful and kind, and i have taken all their suggestions… i bought search engine visibility and have done everything it has told me, i have talked with other friends/business owners, and i have read info on the net and books on how to make a website successful. well, after putting tons of work into it, i am not getting any traffic nor generating sales when i use marketing tools such as google adwords or facebook marketing.
any help or suggestions i would really appreciate!

@making_sales,

It sounds like you are taking great steps to increase traffic to your site. We do however recommend ensuring your Search Engine Visibility tags have been added to your Quick Shopping Cart. If this sounds like a step you may have accidentally missed, check out the following link for more information:

Adding Search Engine Visibility Tags to Your Website

Please also keep in mind it may take time for search engines to rank your site still.

I hope this helps.

thanks aaronk…
i did do all of that, not sure if you can see… but if you go to my website and on any page press ‘ctrl’ and ‘U’, you will see the tags. i did them at site level and at page level… hasn’t helped. one thing i did notice is for “robots”, it defaults to:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /member
i figured i would leave that there and below i put in my tags:
<title>Whirly Dog … </title>
<meta name=”description” content=”Whirly Dog Supplies makers of … “>
<meta name=”keywords” content=”luxury dog apparel,fashion for dogs,little dog apparel, … “>

then under that i did the pages… it gives “help page”, “contact us”, etc. etc.
finally, i have also put all my tags on storefront, catagories, product pages, etc…
like i said i did everything the “search engine visibility” tool said to do, and it says i did it all correct.
i’m just dumbfounded on what’s going on… i was getting more “visits” and “visitors” before i did all the SEO work, when i first set up the store. :/

It is really tough to say what could be causing this. Driving traffic to your site is hard work, and a lot of different factors go into it. If you have followed all the steps for Search Engine Visibility, it can just take time for the site to be indexed by the search engines, these things don’t just happen over night. I would just keep updating the site and following SEV.

Best of luck with your site.

thank you baillee…
another question i have that i can’t find answer is, when i add a product to my site, does it change the sitemap? should i be re-submitting to all the search engines each time i add something? or does that just delay the search engines from indexing the site?

Adding products shouldn’t change your sitemap, but adding pages would. And you don’t want to continuously submit your site to the search engines, or they may penalize you for it.

Let me know if you have any further questions!

Have you joined social networks and used that form of marketing as well? I opened my store about a month ago and I’m getting a ton of traffic, just not making any sales……We just need to stay diligent and keep talking about your business, everything should be a sales pitch. It will happen, we just gotta give it time. Good Luck! My site is http://www.johnnybugout.com

Thanks for the suggestion…
yes, i have a facebook page, and twitter, and digg, and pinterest, and stumbleupon. i try to get my site out there daily, i am posting in blogs, leaving comments on sites, forums, etc.
i just lowered prices, even though they are already low… i just can’t figure it out. looking at site analytics people are going to various pages and leaving.. its like they lose interest right away… i just don’t get it. i think it looks great for the content and the products i’m selling. but i’m just not getting many visits, or keeping them there, and the ones visiting dont buy anything. i’m selling on ebay without a problem, but i was trying to do this to lose all the fees ebay charges. ugh… i’m just frustrated beyond belief. :(
thanks though for all your comments, keep them coming, i need the help.
paul :)
