Recommended way of displaying temporary "under construction" page?

Hello,
I’m still setting up and fine-tuning the definite website (based on Wordpress) but I need to still show a custom-made -and very simple- “under construction” page for the public “www.my-domain.com”.
Of course, I need to be able to test the real website at the same time.
What’s the best way of achieving that? Using a subdomain like temp.my-domain.com and fiddle with DNS? Or just renaming the default page somehow?
Thanks!

Renaming the default page would be the easiest way to achieve this. Otherwise, you can move all of the content for the site into its own directory and access it through the path(yourdomain.com/foldername).

@jake_h – I wanted to point out that if you decide to move the WordPress blog you would need to change the URL in the admin area first (then back again when the site is web ready).
Also the steps of this article are OUT OF ORDER! Make sure you do steps 2, 3, & 4 first, then step 1, and then step 5.

Awesome, exactly what I needed. Works like a charm!
Now, if I wanted to have a 2nd active site on a different subdomain at the same time, is that possible within the same account? If so, how do I do that?
Thanks!

@jake_h – If you have an Economy plan you can create up to 25 sub-domains, or if you have a Deluxe or higher plan you can create up to 400 sub-domains (or unlimited if you add them to the hosting account as if it were a domain name).
Add sub-domains:

Or add as a domain name (Deluxe or higher plans only, just type out ‘example.yourdomain.com’ as the domain)

I have an Economy plan. Can I install a different and totally independent instance of Wordpress on each subdomain?
The idea is: I have a ‘production’ instance on the root folder which responds to ‘www.mydomain.com’ and I want to develop a future version on subdomain ‘dev.mydomain.com’ which sits on the ‘dev’ folder and might be a completely different Wordpress theme, content, etc.
How do I create the 2nd Wordpress site? Just create the subdomain (already done that) and then copy the Wordpress files? Or should I install Wordpress in the subdomain folder in a specific manner?
Again, it’s of the utmost importance that both Wordpress sites are independent and fully functional at the same time.
Thanks

@jake_h
Yes you can install an instance of Wordpress on each subdomain that you create. As each subdomain will be assigned to a specific directory, the directory will serve as the root for the subdomain.
