Hi. Last year I purchased a domain through Godaddy and set it up for use with my Blogger (Google) blog. I now want to host the blog myself and bought a hosting plan through Godaddy. I set the primary domain to the one I was using for Blogger, less than 24 hours ago.

Right now, the domain name directs to a Google error page. I know it will take up to 24 hours for the changes to set in, but is there something else I need to do, like change the DNS records?

You may need to check the DNS settings for your domain name to ensure that they are set properly to work with your hosting plan. You will want to check your “@” A Record and ensure that this uses the IP address of your hosting plan, and the “WWW” CNAME should point to the “@” symbol. The settings should resemble this:

A Record
Host: @
Points to: (your hosting IP)

CNAME
Host: www
Points to: @

Information on locating the IP address for your hosting plan can be found in this article:

OK. I had to create 3 additional A records when I set it up for Blogger. Do I just delete those, and do I only need one for the Godaddy hosting?

You will only need one A Record with a host of “@”. If you have multiple A Records with a host of “@” that still point to Google IP Addresses, you will delete the extra A Records.

In order for a subdomain to work with your hosting plan, you would first need to add the subdomain to your hosting plan. Information on working with subdomains can be found in this article:
