Transfer locked
nvrdul said 1 year, 7 months ago:
I just purchased a new domain. I want to transfer that name. I have unloced the domain but godaddy still shows the following:
Authorization Code:
Transfer locked until 12/5/2011:
New domain registration
Can’t wait until 12/5/2011 to transfer
Is there a cure?
chrisg said 1 year, 7 months ago:
@nvrdul,
New domain registrations require a 60 day wait before they can be transferred to another registrar. If the domain is locked due to being a new registration, the lock status cannot be removed till the date specified.

Time to find another registrar
chrisg said 1 year, 5 months ago:
@danq,
Sorry you feel that way. However, please be aware that this 60 day hold period for new domain registrations is a required holding period required by ICANN regulations; which we choose to follow. It is not just Go Daddy policy and is actually a ruling that many other ICANN accredited registrars will follow.

I have to agree with danq,
It is an pointless and annoying rule.
And BTW – if it’s a holding period “required by ICANN”, why did you “choose to follow”? And if you did have a choice, may I suggest, you reconsider?

@flemming,
My apologies for any confusion in my previous statement.
As an ICANN accredited registrar, we are required to adhere to the 60 day hold policy on newly registered domain names.
I am sorry you feel that this is pointless, but it is a ruling that we and other accredited Registrars need to follow for security and protection purposes of the domain name.

may I know how long it takes for godaddy to approve my request to transfer my domain name (purchased 31/07/11). I have proceed to change the name server from GVODNS.com to HOSTGATOR.com, unlock the domain name and got the authorization code and submit to hostgator for processing yesterday.
pls advise
chrisg said 1 year, 5 months ago:
@greenjade,
Generally, the transfer process can take 5-10 business days to complete.
Once the transfer has been acknowledged by the gaining registrar, we should receive a notice confirming the request to transfer the domain away. At this point, you should receive a notice from us which includes steps for you to accept the transfer away from our services. Once you have completed those steps, the domain should automatically be released from our system to be transferred to the new registrar.
If you have not received a notice from us to verify transferring the domain away, you will want to contact our Live Support via phone or email so we can look into the status of your domain transfer and further advise how to proceed.

I have the same problem.If I’d knew that godaddy will lock the transfer, I would’ve registered my domains through my hosting company. I’m not sure if this is a way to get more people to use godaddy hosting. Anyway, I know what to do next time.
chrisg said 10 months ago:
@pasdiprobleme,
I believe I had previously pointed out that as an ICANN accredited registrar we are required to adhere to the 60 day hold policy on newly registered domain names. This ruling applies to us as well as any other registrar who maintains ICANN accreditation.
Regardless of the 60 day hold, we do not prevent you from directing the domain to a third party host provider. You are free to direct your domain to their hosting services by either updating your nameservers or modifying DNS Zone File information to point to your host. Both methods of directing your domain can be completed through the steps outlined in the following articles:
Setting Nameservers for Your Domain Names
Managing DNS for Your Domain Names

Hi. I assume this only applies if a domain is being transferred away from GoDaddy? if I want to transfer to another GoDaddy account I can do so at anytime from registering the domain?
chrisg said 9 months ago:
@calibrade,
That is correct. Account changes for domain names within Go Daddy customer accounts are not under the same 60 day restrictions as transfers between registrars. So you are free to change out domains between customer accounts at any time through the steps outlined in the following article:
Moving a Domain Name out of Your Account

I understand that there is a hold on a transfer for newly registered domain names. My domain names are not newly registered. They were registered years ago. Additionally, I have set them to unlocked in preparation for transfer to another registrar. I went to get an authorization code and saw the message “transfer locked until 10/21/12″ – and if I clicked “Send by Email” for the authorization code, no e-mail was sent/received. Why are my domains transfer-locked if they are not newly registered, and not locked by me?
chrisg said 8 months, 3 weeks ago:
@cdhmfidc,
My apologies for the delay. Without being able to look into the account and the specific status of the domain, I would not be able to address over an open forum why the Transfer lock is in place or whether it could be correct. If you have not already done so, I would advise reaching out to our Live Support via phone or email for further assistance into this locked status.
