Why is there a 10-12 day wait to gain back an expired domain I purchased?

Five days ago I had to re-purchase a domain name b/c the previous website manager let it expire. It is not yet showing in my products. The charge is on my credit card so I’ve paid for a domain I can’t yet use; I did NOT purchase with Alipay. Why is there a 10-12 day wait to work through the “protocol” to release the domain and what is the protocol? Did I inadvertently cause a delay when I changed the acct name and updated the password and safety settings? Thanks.

The Expired Domain name auctions happen during the domain names redemption period. During this period the owner of the domain name can still redeem the domain name. We have to wait the 2 weeks for this period to close to move the domain name to the auction winners account. If the owner decides to renew the domain name after you have purchased the auction, you are refunded automatically.

I am the owner – or rather my client is. I bought it back on Day 53 after expiration. Why did I have to “buy” it if I could have just “redeemed” it or renewed it? Am I waiting on myself to renew it??

I did not “win” an auction, but had a GoDaddy customer service rep help me re-purchase it directly over the phone. He first said it would take 24 hours to show in my acct, then a few days later, he said it would be 10-12 days. He also said I would not be able to change the name of the acct, but I was able to do so. I’m not sure this case fits in the typical “auction” situation. Did I trigger this delay by changing the “owner” name for safety reasons? Thanks.

It sounds like we would need to review your account in order to determine the current status of the domain as well as it’s history to better address your questions. Please contact our Support Team if you have not already done so and reference this thread for proper handling.
