Let me first say that these Widget’s are Fantastic to use. Keep up the good work.

Do you have a widget to handle Customer access to a Website? Can you make one if you don’t already have one?

Scope of my project: I’m using Web Easy Professional 8 Software to build my site. Trying to incorporate security access to the site. Would like to be able to issue a password and user id to customers, self-maintain and all that other stuff.

Much appreciated,
Thanks,
Tom

@artisan_2011

Thank you for the kind words about our current widgets. I am not aware of an existing widget to handle user access to the website. I will definitely pass this suggestion along to our development team for future consideration.

Hi artisan_2011,

Would you mind detailing some of the specific features you would like to see in this widget?

I’m assuming you would like it to verify username/password combinations and restrict access to specific pages? Are there any other behaviors you would like? What about username/password storage? Password creation?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Hello Ian. Here is what I was thinking.

Scenario: Widget for Customer Access to a Website
Let’s say I own a Godaddy shopping cart store and I sell subscriptions to a “research website”. Once the customer completes their purchase I will issue them a username and password to access the “research website”. I manually setup a record for them in the Easy Database Table. I would then email them their assigned user name and password. They access the website and change their password to something of their choice.

Entity = User Login Record

Attributes = User Name, User Password, User Email Address, User Redirect Page, User Account Locked, User Account Locked Display Message, User Password Number of Attempts Allowed, User Password Number of Attempts

#1 – Allow the widget to authenticate a username and password that is stored in an easy database table. Upon successful login re-direct the user to the appropriate page indicated on their login record. Authentication needs to first check if the user account is locked or not. If locked then deny all access and display User Account Locked Display Message.

#2 – Lock a users account if they exceed the number of attempts allowed against their user name. Don’t limit to any single session. Locked accounts would require me(the administrator) to go into the table and reset their account.

#3 – Allow me to set the Widget Time Out Setting (in minutes).

#4 – Provide copy/paste script that can be placed on web pages that authenticate the user has successfully logged in prior to displaying the web page. Prevent user from navigating directly to a url within the site.

#5 – Provide the function where a user can change their password upon successful login of their current username and password. User enters their current user name and password then clicks on the Change Password Button. They are then prompted to enter their new password and confirm the change. Update the table with their new password.

#6 – Provide the function if a user forgets their password that a password reset link can be emailed to them or the password itself is emailed to them. Use the email address on file in their login record.

#7 – Provide the function if a user forgets their username that it can be emailed to them. Use the email address on file in their login record.

Another idea to span off of this one is a Site Registration Widget. I’m currently not in need of one since I’m using the Godaddy shopping cart as my registration process, but just an idea for future reference.

Hello Ian and Tim. I also have a need for such a Widget with everything that Tom mentioned.

We have a home page that we want multiple viewers to have full access, and want to place all of our second tier pages behind a login and password.

Any updates on this? I would like to have something operational by Jan 1 2012, if possible!

Just a quick update, the Easy Database team is currently working on this feature. It’s in line to be the next big feature we release. Our developers are already working on it.

Thanks for your interest.

This is something that would be an absolute Slam-dunk for so many people trying to do exactly this. We have am Association website for which I have the same need to authenticate the user from our list of members and control what or how much of our website tonight web site or personal contact information they can see or update. Please add me as a very interested party in the addition of this great functionality!!

Thanks for the update DS! Do you have any kind of timeframe for when this might be up and running?

I know that now one of the widgets being developed is being referred to as the “Private Widget” but nobody has said anything yet as to what is the release target data you are shooting for. I’ve been checking several times a week for a long time hoping to see a report on progress. Anything you can share yet?

Thanks
