Hello, I am putting out a request for help in case someone knows how to resolve an issue we have been fighting. I have seen other references to this issue while searching for an answer, but I have yet to come across a solution for this. We are having problems getting Apple Mail to work with the GoDaddy mail server(s) under an IMAP account. The problem is that deleting a mail item does not seem to delete the mail from the server, unless under a certain circumstance – more on that later. So, here is the scenario: I am looking at the same account on an iPad, and on a Macbook Pro (both Apple Mail and Outlook for Mac running). Here is what is happening:

- Delete a message from the iPad – it is deleted in Outlook and Apple Mail. (As expected).

- Delete a message from Outlook for Mac – it is deleted from Apple Mail and the iPad (as expected).

- Delete a message from Apple Mail – it appears to be deleted on the client, but is still present on the iPad and Outlook.

What’s interesting here is that if I open a message in Apple Mail, it shows as read in the other environments – so I know that info is being sent back to the mail server.
As noted above, there is one instance where a delete from Apple Mail will be reflected on the other two – once I shut down Apple Mail, any recently ‘deleted’ messages will now be removed from the other environments. It’s as if the Apple Mail client is holding these and not marking them as actually deleted until the application is shut down.

While this may not seem like a huge deal, it has become very frustrating to our users to delete mail in the office and still have it on their mobile device. Or worse – we have had instances where ‘deleted’ items have reappeared in Apple Mail. We are a primarily Mac outfit, and I would hate to see an issue like this cause us to change providers…

I have literally been on the phone with Apple and GoDaddy (twice) for hours today trying to find an answer. Apple says it is GoDaddy, and GoDaddy says it is Apple….. I did set up Gmail in Apple Mail, and it DID remove items from the server when deleting them. So whatever this issue is, it appears to be specific to GoDaddy and Apple Mail.

I have tried everything in the mail settings, to no avail. The most likely place to check would be the checkboxes in the Trash section of the account settings. (Move deleted messages to trash, store deleted messages on the server.) I have tried these both checked and unchecked, with the same result.

So, I’m at the end of my rope, and I know others out there have run into this issue. Is there anyone out there who can resolve this?????

@rtm

Thank you for taking the time to post. I have seen challenges recently with Apple Mail and our IMAP services for some users. I am not sure if there was a recent update, but as you can attest to, it is isolated with the one client. There may have been an update that is contributing to the issue. Check out this article, it seems to have helped others:

Thanks, Jason. Unfortunately, no luck when trying this setting… Is there anyone out there who has solved this issue? It’s driving us crazy, and we’re totally out of ideas.

OK, quick update here – it looks like unchecking the IDLE option has indeed got us working properly now. It seems like it takes a bit longer than it should when waiting for a sync after deleting an item from Apple Mail – but eventually, the delete will show on other devices. We’ll continue to monitor, but this may finally be the solution we’ve been searching for. Thanks again to Jason for pointing us in that direction.

Our organization has also been battling this problem for months. Additionally, we find emails just *disappear* from Mac mail, while they are still on the server or on other clients. It takes a rebuild or reinstall of the account to get them back. This is ridiculously time consuming. RTM- did you find any of that as well, and if so, is the IDLE solution helping? Thx.

We have 30 people on apple and across other platforms such as as iphone and ipads. We have severe syncing issues, we are loosing emails and sometimes dont receive them for days.

I have called three times and they tell me that no one else is having this issue. I AM NOTICING THAT THIS IS NOT TRUE, MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE. Tec support tried to convince me that it was the devices and to call apple, but we also use some blackberries, we have more than 30 people with the same issues.

http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/4714/setting-up-your-email-address-with-imap

http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/3423/iphone-setting-up-email

guys,

I am having the same issue. We have 2 imacs, 2 iphones, and 1 pad that is all imap synced together. Well they should be, I have one mailbox that is having the same issues. Emails moved to folders, deleted are not doing what they are supposed to. They either dont move, or dont delete. They are not moving in the webmail either when you go online to see if it has happened at the server end. I think it is a godaddy issue but no one can find a problem to fix, when quite clearly there is a problem to fix.

Please advise of the solution, I have had this problem for about 6 months and now that our email traffic has increased it has become an issue that HAS to be resolved, not worked around from our end.

Cheers

this is also true for pop servers. godaddy is not playing nice with apple. I have an e into support but as this issue was ongoing a year ago and Im still seeing posts here…my guess is I might have to find a new host. my host simply MUST play nice with mac.

ideas?

I was having a somewhat similar problem. I could successfully delete email from my iPhone and iPad, but email would come back if I was deleted it from my MacBook Pro. Unchecking the “Use IDLE command if the server supports it” box in Mail Preferences (Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Advanced) worked for me.

After reading all these notes I am TOTALLY discouraged.
Apple Mail here + Ipad + Iphone. No Sync or defective sync. I have set up rules on Apple Mail and copies them into the Godaddy Server… Nothing happened. The result is I cannot check email on my Ipad, which is the reason I have switched from POP to IMAP. So disappointed on lak of assistance from GD. Does anybody know a better domain provider to recommend?

We’ve been having EXACTLY the same issue for months. Called Go daddy twice today they weren’t able to help me. They said I need to call Apple. I went down and talked to the guys at the apple store who said it was an issue with the server. Apparently no one can help.

This has been really hard on us and we need to do something.
