Hi,
I recently bought a Galaxy S2 and have followed all the instructions on the site in order to setup my email account on my phone.

Unfortunately, it just doesnt seem to work out. The account gets created on the phone, but it is not able to retrieve any of my emails. Been almost 2 days now, and i cant get any of my work mails (hosted thru godaddy) on my phone.

It does not even give me any error message that i can post up to get some help from around.

I have an Iphone as well, and the same settings have worked perfectly on that.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

@Jason,
I have reviewed my settings and have done exactly what is mentioned in the link.

Just to make sure, i even deleted the email account on my S2 and re-created it, step by step, as per the link provided in the last post. The account has now been created.

Unfortunately, i am still having the same problem. My email still is not loading up on my phone. the phone has been kept for an hour now and the inbox (on the S2) is showing no emails and it keeps giving me a notification of “refreshing”.

Any additional help would be much appreciated Jason.

Thank you.

@halelz,

With the email account already being set up on the iPhone, do you have the iPhone set to leave a copy of messages on the server? It could be possible that the email is correct set up on the Samsung, but all the email is being pulled to your iPhone instead. You may want to check the settings on the iPhone to ensure that you have it set to delete the message on the server when it is removed from your Inbox on your iPhone. That way, a copy should still exist on your email server when your Samsung attempts to pull the email.

@Mike, Thank you for your response.

I have multiple multiple email accounts on the domain name .sinaintl from GoDaddy.
My email (tariq@…) has been setup on my iPhone. Hence, i mentioned the fact that i have an account currently working on my iPhone and that i am aware of the procedure involved in setting up an account on a mobile device.
Currently, i am trying to setup another email account (Shabbir) on my employee’s Galaxy S2. Thus, there is no connection between the setup’s on the 2 phones.
Additionally, I have setup my Iphone with the IMAP protocol and have made sure that all the mail is saved on the server as well. I very often use the login.secureserver.net to access my mails as well, and can see all my emails when i login through the website. I hope that means that all my mails are stored on the server as well.

@ Mike / Jason ,
Alright, this is a little frustrating as i believe it cannot be this hard to set up an account. So just to make sure I am going about this the right way, im going to try and list the entire process here. Kindly review and let me know what I am potentially doing wrong, in setting this up on the Galaxy S2

To Start off from the beginning:

Email address: ______@______.com
Password: ********
Setup as premium account (POP/IMAP) CHECK

Then I click on NEXT

Selected IMAP Account,
Incoming mail Server: imap.asia.secureserver.net
Port: 993
Use SSL: CHECK (I have tried it without checking this option, with Port 143. It still doesn’t work)
Use NTLM Authentication: NOT CHECKED (I’m not sure what this is)

Then I click on NEXT

Outgoing Mail Server: smtpout.asia.secureserver.net
Port: 465
Use SSL: CHECK (I have tried it without checking this option, with Port 25. It still doesn’t work)
Requires SMTP Authentication: CHECK
Authentication details
Username: ______@______.com
Password: ********

Then is the review page and the only option is “DONE”, so the phone may verify the details.

I have tried most the combinations possible and each time, the account is properly created on the phone, but it is unable to retrieve any of the emails.

Kindly note, this account (shabbir@______.com), was previously setup on a Nokia E72 and was working perfectly on that. IS there something that needs to be altered in the account itself in order to make it sync on an android phone?

Any suggestions you have after reviewing this will be much appreciated.

I apologize for overlooking the thread. Were you able to get this setup? If not, I would like to try a different route, just for the sake of testing to see if the client is impacting the setup.

Based on your settings everything looks good. What I would like you to try is setting up the K9 email client, which is available in the Android Market(Free). Use the same settings you outlined here.

Hey Jason,
thank you Thank you Thank you soo much. That suggestion was totally on the mark.
I downloaded and installed K-9 and was able to setup my Godaddy email within 30 seconds. It was really simple.

So, I am all set as of now. I guess it was a problem with the email client that was preventing me from setting up the email account.

Cheers,
Halelz

That’s awesome, thanks for the willingness to try. The challenge with these clients is every developer does something to make them unique. I would assume that Google is the first email service they cater to, which makes sense. I had the same issue with the client on my device. Our Development Team has tested extensively with all clients, including K9, and form my experience, it is very stable.

Jason,

Posting the answer to the resolution of this issue would help others I’m sure.

Without the resolution being posted this entire thread is worthless and should be removed! There is more then enough worthless clutter on the net, adding more is an insult.

I’m annoyed because I’m also using a new Galaxy S2 T989 and also use K-9 which I use for my AOL, Yahoo, Ymail, Hotmail and numerous other corporate accounts. I’m using gmail for monitoring many gmail/Google Apps accounts and have been an IT manager providing full tech support for pc/mac/iphone/blackberry for many years however the paltry instructions provided here DO NOT WORK so if this issue was truly resolved POST THE ANSWER!

Thanks for posting the solution for the Galaxy S2. I purchased the Galaxy Blaze and had the same problem. After digging I’m glad I found your post.

I have had the same problem that suddenly appeared in my AT&T Galaxy S2. I discovered that you must set up your email account as a premium account in the Android email client. If you don’t, it won’t work.
