I changed the ‘mail’ CNAME record to point to ghs.google.com so that mail.nudletakeaway.com will go to Gmail but I get the 404 error.

I am showing the Google 404 page you are referring to. This is typically just a propagation time and will eventually resolve properly. The propagation for Google sites may take longer as they typically have a 1 week ttl on their DNS. However, you may want to contact Google directly to see why the page is not properly loading the gmail login: http://google.com/support/a/.

It’s been more than a week and I still get the 404 error. Google doesn’t have a solution online for non-Business or non-Education users. Are you able to fix the problem? Thanks!

You will want to ensure that you have the URL properly configured in your Google Apps account. I have found the following article provided by Google that provides some additional information regarding this:
