Brand new machine running Windows 7 x64 pro. I installed the latest Desktop Notifier 2 weeks ago, and I still get daily popup to run “Starfield installer”. My previous XP system started doing this after I instlled the latest desktop notifier on it.

When i open the Desktop Workspace and i go to the about tab – the only thing that looks wrong is the uninstall.exe – I hve version 1.0.3.3 installed, but it says the latest is 1.0.2.2. (looks like a bug to me). Pushing the Check Update now button, asks if I want to run starfieldinstall.exe – but it runs and does nothing.

Please pass this on to the developers.

@MoonshadowGeek

Hi. I’m sorry to hear you’ve run into this, and thank you for making us aware of it. What I recommend doing is completely uninstalling the Desktop Tools and reinstalling it. If this doesn’t help, please reach out to our Support Team here:

http://support.godaddy.com/support/

and we can have a support ticket opened for you.

Thanks!

i have the same issue – it is virtually EVERY DAY!!! and when you give up and reinstall it, you get the same pop up the next day. Surely we can’t be the only two people this is happening to.

Trying to use support link – but I have yet to find someone that can read what is in the ticket…. they keep telling me to unintsall and reinstall. the latest help says to “unblock” like it is a UAC issue.

ARGGGGGGGGGG! If only godaddy could get competent support staff.

Sorry for my rant… I had just been given advice that was inaccurate:

Godaddy said to go to the ProgramFiles/starfield folder and unblock the installer file – it is not in this directory, so i thought it was another wild goose chase.

I did find it here:

Directory of C:UsersAppDataLocalStarfield

I right clicked on starfieldinstall.exe ->properties->unblock

Will report back tomorrow if it works or not.

i unblocked starfieldinstall.exe – it is the only file that was blocked – strange it never asked for admin rights to run – so i am not sure why it was blocked or what the block meant.

It still doesn’t explain why XP behaved the same way – there is no UAC functionality on XP.

I also have this problem. I tried to use the above resolution, but I never find any “unblock” option. (Win 7 x64) Can anyone be more specific as to where I should find it?

While I am happy to use a workaround, I do think it is a shame that an update was released that causes so much frustration. I get that darn download message several times a day.

Also having this problem – is there a fix? It’s super annoying to have this thing keep popping up several times a day. What does it even do???

@Baillee

I have taken screenshots as requested, but how do I add them here? Do you have a direct email I can send them to?

I guess MY situation is that I am UNABLE to find this “unblock” feature that seems to resolve the issue for others.
