Morning.
i need some help and would appreciate your help:

I jsut set up my new system (outlook 2010 on windows 7). I used the proper email config from godaddy (in and outcoming server).

When configuring the system without SSL, i receive the following error message:
Sending error in Outlook: “Send test e-mail message: Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP)

When i configure for SSL (with modified port), i receive this:
Send test e-mail message: The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

EITHER WAY – email sending does not work.

i have triewd all different config settings in outlook, i have turned off/ modified my firewall and am running out of ideas.

please help.
THANKS,
MJ.

You need to go into your Outlook account’s “More Settings”. On the Outgoing Server tab, check the box “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”. Also check the radio button “Use same settings as my incoming mail server”.

Save everything and run the test again. Should work.

Be sure to use correct ports if you check SSL. 993 for incoming and 465 for outgoing.

If you don’t want SSL, us ports 143 for incoming and 3535 for outgoing.

Hope this helps.

First of all thanks for the response.

i had tried the first recommendation, and retried it just now, which unfortunately yielded no result either.

the non-SSL config works partially (port 143 is a no go, but using default 110 and outgoing 3535 worked), HOWEVER ONLY if i turn my firewall (McAfee) off… which really isnt a longterm option. I guess i will contact McAfee next about their config. any other words of wisdom?

Thanks so much in advance,
Julia

Having similar problems with both Outlook 2010 and Simple Machines Forum on my web site. Outlook can receive mail, but not send with any of the port settings. SMF cannot send, which greatly limits its usefulness to us.

Make sure that you have your email control panel set to allow relays – 250 per day. It may be set at N/A. I had the same problem for 2 months before I figured it out. Tech support did not mention it to me and I tried 3 different email client software programs and kept getting the error but nobody knew why.

Try checking this in your GoDaddy “EMAIL CONTROL CENTER”

I almost gave up!!

It makes sense now why I could only receive but not send.
