Incoming fine, outgoing not working…!
Meeran84 said 2 years, 5 months ago:
Hi,
I’m trying to set up my new email address with my Apple Mail. I am getting my incoming mails but i can’t seem to send any mails.
When i set it up I started by inputing my full name, my new email address and password.
Then after that i entered my incoming mail server information, which it then checks and verifies.
On the outgoing mail server input page I enter a description, i then enter the Outgoing Mail Server exactly as it is written in my email client settings (smtpout.secureserver.net). I leave the ‘Use only this server’ box ticked and tick the ‘Use Authentication’ box, entering my email and password as before.
Then when i click on continue a display saying ‘Checking connection to mail server “smtpout.secureserver.net”…’ comes up and it seems to get stuck on this…
Can anybody tell me what the problem might be?
I have 250 SMTP relays enabled for this email account.
Thanks,
M

@ Meeran84
You may want to try using an alternate port setting in your email client. Try using One of the following for the outgoing mail port: 25, 80, 3535, 587. If one doesn’t work, I recommend that you try them all.

I have a similar problem. I set up an email account on Mac Mail several months ago, no problem.
I’m trying to set up a new account tonight and I either get a “connection failed” after the smtpout entry or if that goes thru then I get “The SMTP server “smtpout.secureserver.net” rejected the password for user…” Yet that password works fine on the Web mail site. I’ve gone thru this about fifteen time checking and rechecking each entry.
Gary, regarding you suggestion above. In Mac Mail I don’t see anything about a ‘Port’. Are you saying put ’25′ where the ‘smtpout…’ goes?

I was having trouble sending on my email account. I read something today in help I think. It said that I needed to check outgoing server authentication. I did and now I can receive and send.

where do you go to check outgoing server authentication?
My email worked finally last night but tonight it’s asking for my password and rejecting it again.

@chris51,
It seems like your issue may run a little deeper. If the password is being rejected, ensure that it is entered correctly, as well as the username. Here’s a great article on the setup for Mac that will help you review the settings, including the authentication field:

incoming mail is not working, and outgoing is very slow, once mail moved out from my mail server, it is taking 2 to 3 hours to reach the destination mail ID, if i used to send any emails to my newly created ID from my personal E-mail, i am only receiving these following failure mail”Hi. This is the qmail-send program at p3plsmtpa01-09.prod.phx3.secureserver.net.
I’m afraid I wasn’t able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I’ve given up. Sorry it didn’t work out. etc ……..”

@ Gary A, I am having the same issue as Meeran84 at the top of the post.
How do I change the port as you suggest?
JasonP said 1 year, 8 months ago:
@rgap
The following steps will walk you through changing the ports on your clent(Apple Mail).
1. From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
2. Click Accounts.
3. In the Accounts list, select the email account you want to use.
4. From the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop-down menu, select Edit Server List.
5. Click Advanced.
6. Select Use custom port, and then enter one of the following:
Without SSL — 25, 80, 3535
With SSL — 465
7. If using an SSL, select Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
8. Click OK.
9. To change the incoming port, in the Accounts window, click Advanced.
10. In the Port field, enter one of the following:
IMAP without SSL — 143
IMAP with SSL — 993
POP without SSL — 110
POP with SSL — 995
11. If using an SSL, select Use SSL.
12. Close the window, and then click Save.
Hope this helps,
Jason

I have the same problem and tried every single port number mentioned above and in other posts— still nothing. Is it possible that the problem is on the godaddy server…? This is becoming very inconvenient as it seems to be hapenning at least once a month now…

I’m in the same boat. My several GoDaddy Email accounts worked fine for years via Outlook Express and then Windows Live mail when I changed to Windows 7.
Suddenly, and for no apparent reason, I can receive but not send from any of my accounts. After checking and/or trying ALL the obvious settings, I installed Thunderbird with the same results. Gmail works fine and by selecting Gmail as my outgoing server, I can send my Email from Live Mail or Thunderbird using any of my accounts just fine.
Logging on directly to Web Mail works OK and I can send mail from any of my accounts. I’ve cancelled and reinstalled all my accounts, activated new ones, tried SSL, used all the various port options, etc. Nothing will solve the problem. The prompts change slightly, depending on what configuration I try. I get “time out” problems, “improper reply from server during log on”, and so on.
I’m not the only one having this problem. Telling me to change to port 80 is NOT going to solve this problem; I’ve tried that along with countless other variations.
Suggestions?

If the client is not connecting at all, lets try to Telnet to the server. Make sure that you test all of the ports.
