Mac Mail Deleting IMAP Messages after 2 weeks? HELP!!!
doug_seamans said 1 year ago:
I have gone through this problem twice now; we have an ipad, an iphone and an imac and we have an IMAP account through godaddy webmail. For some reason, ALL messages (inbox, trash, sent, etc) older than 2 weeks are disappearing!!! This is very very very frustrating and bad for business as I am searching for emails from our manufacturer in China and they are GONE! I do not see a setting in mac mail preferences that gives it the option to make messages disappear after two weeks.
I have contact godaddy and they said I ust have chosen that setting but I do not see where it is even offered?!
Someone please help, this problem is going to destroy us. The only good part is, godaddy can restore all our old messages so I know they can be brought back but this cannot happen anymore! Please advise me on what to do!
THANKS!

As you have an IMAP account, you may want to check that your Workspace email does not have this setting on your folders. This may be set to automatically purge messages after 2 weeks and when your email client syncs your folders and messages with Workspace it may be removing them. You can right-click on any folder within your Workspace email and select the Auto Purge option. A drop down menu will then appear and you will have the option to select a time frame or ‘Never’.

Checked that over the phone with godaddy and just double checked it right now and it is NOT set to auto-purge. I don’t understand what is going on. Someone else mst have had this problem before.
Thanks Tim

Have you tried removing your address from your clients and re-adding it? This may help to remove any setting that has been placed on the client side that could be causing an issue.

After Godaddy reloaded all the deleted emails, I took all my accounts off my imac, ipad and iphone. Then I re-added them according to godaddy’s instructions. Everything has been fine for one month and then all of a sudden, last week, all my emails more than ONE week old were all gone. AGAIN! Second time this has happened. There’s no way I am the only person this has ever happened to?! There is no setting that even gives the option to delete all messages after one week so I don’t understand where this problem is happening?
Thanks!

Also happening to me. Live Support has not been helpful. Please fix this.

@811med and @doug_seamans
First, you should have an option within your Mac Mail to remove a copy of messages from the server using the following steps:
Mail > Preferences > Select E-mail Account > Advanced > Remove copy from server after retrieving a message
You will want to check this setting to see how your address is configured. Additionally, I was able to locate a forum article where another user had a similar issue after updating their address from POP to IMAP that may be useful:

I have triple checked our mobile devices and all are set to IMAP.
There is no option in Advanced setting to remove copy from the server.
See pic…
Also, I think the problem was with mac mail moving messages to the trash folder. I unchecked this box. The problem I see with this is that it says “delete messages after one month”, it is deleting messages after 8 days and I am not deleting messages, they are just disappearing.
Very curious how any of these settings is screwing things up, but I have changed them and now I need to call and have all our old messages reloaded. If they disappear in one month I’m going to go nuts!
Thanks

My problem still continues! All emails older than 7 days are deleted from my mail and from the server.
I have several email accounts on godaddy webmail and only one of them is doing this. I have two of them loaded on macmail and only one of them is doing this. I have double checked to make sure the settings are set the same for both and they are.

And I am finding others having the same exact problem.

Please help! THis is literally ruining my business and causing me huge headaches every single day. I have suppliers in China and I cannot find their old emails with sales quotes. I have clients with ongoing projects that I cannot pull up because their email is a couple weeks old and is therefore gone. Please help resolve this!
Thanks

Im having the same problem. I had POP emails then mac mailed erased my email, then godaddy support told me to change it to IMAP, but I still have the problem. I noticed that on my other iMac on which Im using mac mail 3.6, i have all my emails, even though I don’t have them any where not even on the go daddy workspace.
I notice that what timb said up here, he said to find this Mail > Preferences > Select E-mail Account > Advanced > Remove copy from server after retrieving a message… this setting REMOVE COPY FROM SERVER AFTER RETRIEVING A MESSAGE is only on POP accounts.
It could probably be a mac mail problem for lion (mac mail 5.2) for like I said on my other mac using mac mail 3.6 everything is fine and I have POP accounts. When I bought this new iMac, I set up everything as my old computer, but all my emails were erased after a month. On my old mac everything has been the same, I have not lost my emails.. WEIRD!

Same problem – and many others – with Godaddy imap to mac mail (gmail works fine). It’s not settings – it’s Goddaddy and been happening for months/years to various levels.

@Everyone
Due to the continued reports of this behavior I have passed along this thread to our Developers for an additional review and will post any updates as soon as possible.

I am having the same problem. Mail disappears from IMAP inbox after 7 days. I have 2 other IMAP accounts which are not displaying this problem.
I specifically purchased the upgraded email plan to have access to IMAP. If this is how it functions, I have no need for the more expensive plan.

Huge problem for my business as well. Godaddy Email messages are disappearing from Mac Mail and they are not on the Godaddy webmail server either. This has never happened before. I cannot find the setting described above and as someone says – it’s only avail with POP not IMAP. I don’t see an option to keep emails from being deleted. Please help. Thanks.
