@jilllee,

Could you clarify the specific error you encounter when attempting send emails through your device? Is there a specific error message that always appears no matter the port you are trying to send thru?

no error message – but have tried to send 3 emails directly from the phone and they are just “sitting” in my OUTBOX…. funny – I just went to confirm this now – and 2 of the emails are now no longer in the outbox (one still is) but — I had sent them to myself — and I have NOT received either of those 2 (now missing in action) emails. I just now wrote 2 more test emails to myself — and again – they are now just sitting there — OH WAIT — it DID just give me an error message — it said CONNECTION ERROR.

@jilllee,

I would advise going over all of your account settings as outlined within the following article, just to make sure a setting was not overlooked:

Android: Setting up Email

If you have already confirmed these settings and tried each of the recommended ports, I would recommend accessing your mobile mail account through http://mobilemail.secureserver.net to confirm if you are able to send and receive from this interface. If you can, the next step would be to reach out to either your mobile device provider or carrier to inquire if they require the use of their own SMTP relays to send out mail from your Droid device.
