I’m getting mailer daemon messages rejecting emails that appear to have come from my domain, but I haven’t sent them. I wonder if I’ve been hacked or if some bot has randomly found my url. This has happened a couple of times a day for the past several days. I’ve changed my email password. What other steps should I take to correct this?

Same here. There’s only been a few so far, but they are quite annoying. Spammers spoofing bogus email addresses on my domain. Can it be stopped?

That’s funny, I was just getting on this forum to check and see if there were anyone else having this problem. It’s been happening to me for the last week or so. No one has added any email addresses to my account, so I don’t understand why this is happening.

Any help would be really appreciated!!

The exact same thing is happening to us. Started a few days ago and the daemon messages have increased each day. Hopefully someone can let us know what is best to do.

This is one the easiest spoofing techniques spammers can use. Check out this article for details of how it is done, and why you are receiving the bouncebacks:

Why am I getting bouncebacks for messages I did not send?

Yep, also happening the last couple days on one of my accounts. Hoped there was some way to prevent it but haven’t seen any such options. As a precaution, I did change my email password in case I had been hacked.

The problem is that lots of Spam appearing to originate from your domain name may cause your domain to get added to blocked domains and could impact the usefulness of your account.

I am not sure what can be done about it by GoDaddy, but then I am not an expert email administrator.

Look in your Daemon message and see if there is an email address it was returned from

I also am receiving these spoof email messages supposedly coming from my URL. Has GoDaddy investigated yet? Any word on how to correct this?

In the last few days I am also receiving daemon messages with a fake email using my domain name. I read the article Jason listed above and check all my SPF settings. They are all set correctly. Yet someone is spoofing my domain. Anything else I can do?

@roseatsage

Do you have a catchall set for the account? Disabling this feature will eliminate you from receiving the bounced messages.

Thanks, all. I disabled the catchall and so am no longer getting bounced messages. Hope I’ve also fixed it so that no one’s getting faked messages either.

@LRTX

Good to hear, thanks for posting the update.

LRTX: I do not think that will fix the problem – it will only prevent you seeing the bounce-backs. Others are probably still getting the faked messages from your domain – if that’s indeed what’s happening.
