What is an SMTP relay exactly?

The settings say that I have 250 SMTP relays. Does that mean that I can only send from my GoDaddy email account 250 times? I’m probably looking at this incorrectly.

If you are using an email client and are using our outgoing mail server (STMP) you will only be able to send 250 messages per mailbox per day. This limit resets once each day, approximately every 24 hours between 10P.M. and 5 A.M., Arizona Time. If you need more than 250 relays for your mailbox, you can purchase additional relay packs (in packs of 50). You can use a maximum of 500 SMTP relays per day, per email account. If you want to use more than 500 relays per day, you can distribute SMTP relays across multiple email accounts.
If you utilize your ISP’s SMTP server with an email client, this setting does not need to be enabled. Also, if you use our webmail interface, there is no limitation for the number of messages you can send per day, only the how many addresses you can send to at a time (100 recipients per message).

Thank you for your fast reply. I’ve never heard of any limit with my cox email. Why is there a limit with Go Daddy? I can’t imagine sending out more than 250 emails each day but how can I get a larger limit than 500 with an email client. Or no limit at all? I prefer to use an email client because of the faster, cleaner interface and I also use thunderbird calender so everything is in one place.

This limitation is one tool to help us limit spam coming from our email servers. Your ISP may have a sending limitation or other limitations that you can get around by using our SMTP relay service. Unfortunately, you would not be able to get a larger limit than what I have already listed. If you plan on sending more email per day you would either need to use our webmail or may want to consider our Express Email Marketing plans:

Thanks for your help. For the price and features that are offered, you guys are the best bet right now. I guess if I get real popular, I can tell people on my site to allow 48 to 72 hours for replies, lol.
