What is SMTP Relay Limit of 250 Mean?
wil_wells said 1 year, 4 months ago:
This article does not tell me what a 250 SMTP Relay limit means. Is this telling me that a single email account can’t send or receive more than 250 emails in one day?
chrisg said 1 year, 4 months ago:
@wil_wells,
The SMTP relays refers to the amount of outgoing mail messages you can send through our SMTP services via a third party email client such as Outlook. By default, a single address cannot send out more than 250 messages through these services. If necessary, you can purchase additional relays for a single address in packages of 50.
This does not effect the amount of messages you can receive. Please also note that this relay limit does not apply to the outbound messages you send through our web mail interface.

Thanks that’s what I needed to know. I send mail through PHP via my website interfaces so I should be fine.
Thanks again!

@wil_wells,
Glad I could help clarify the concerns there.
Just so you are aware. Even though the SMTP relays for email addresses do not apply towards the hosting account you are sending from, there is a daily limit for outgoing mail being sent from the shared hosting server. This relay limit is 1,000 per day by default.

Hi guys, so just we are 100% clear on that, does that means that if i send emails from either the Webmail service or my website (Wordpress based on the Shared hosting) my daily limit will be by default 1,000 Outgoing emails?
Thanks,
QM
chrisg said 1 year, 3 months ago:
@qmedia,
The 1,000 outgoing mail limit only applies to sending out mail through the Hosting relays.
If you use a web mail account to send out messages, it’s limit is going to be based on the amount of SMTP relays you have available for the email address you are sending from. By default, addresses start with a 250 relay limit, but can have additional relays added in packages of 50 (up to 10 additional packs total).
However, note that the SMTP relays for web mail accounts are only for use with sending out email through third party email clients such as Outlook. You would not be able to specify the use of these same SMTP relays for sending out mail through a hosting account.

Hello,
I’m using the “SHARED PLANS” hosting, and just noticed you cannot use external SMTP.
Just a quick question, is there really no way for me to connect to my Gmail SMTP??
A lot of emails send with GoDaddy’s relay end up in SPAM folder of people. It’s really an issue.
Is there anything I could do to connect to Gmail?
Thanks!

@windowserver,
If you are sending out mail from the shared hosting account, it must be sent out through the hosting SMTP relay: relay-hosting.secureserver.net. You would not be able to directly link your hosting to send through Gmail SMTP.

I am currently using GoDaddy shared server. Earlier there was an option to check my daily SMTP relay usage in my Hosting DashBoard. I do not see that option anymore. Is there a way I can check my Relay usage? Also, is the limit still 1000 mails per day?
chrisg said 11 months, 2 weeks ago:
@ragingapp,
I believe the place where you could check the daily SMTP relays of the server was for either a Virtual Dedicated Server or Dedicated Server account. Within a shared hosting plan, you cannot review this status through the Hosting Control Center interface.
The daily limit is still 1000 outgoing messages a day.

what is the way to increase the daily limit of relaying messages from my asp.net application to more than 5000. I have shared hosting. Also I don’t want any limitation on number of recipients per email. Kindly suggest.
chrisg said 10 months, 3 weeks ago:
@deepu,
You cannot increase the SMTP relay limit of a shared hosting environment. If you require more than 1000 relays per day, you will want to consider the use of our Virtual Dedicated Server or Dedicated Server accounts for this purpose.
Be aware that these plans start with a 1000 relays per day limit as well. However, they can be increased through a request submitted as outlined in the article below:
How do I request additional SMTP relays for a virtual or dedicated hosting account?

Hi ChrisG,
In regards to “SMTP Relay Limit of 250″ I understand this only applies if you are sending through third parties i.e. Live or Outlook.
My question is: If I use the GoDaddy email interface within the site “GoDaddy” is there a limit to how many emails I receive and distribute?
Yours faithfully
Infecto
chrisg said 10 months, 3 weeks ago:
@infecto,
You would be correct. The SMTP relay services are strictly for relaying outgoing email through third party clients such as Live or Outlook.
If you are sending mail directly through the Workspace Webmail interface, there is no set Daily limit.

I’ve read this and I’m slightly confused. Why is this limit in place? With previous hosting providers I’ve never been made aware of a limit.
Basically, does this mean that from my blackberry or iDevice I can only send 250 emails per day email account?
Thanks
Glenn
