Chat app for shared linux hosted space

I’m a shared linux space customer looking to add a simple chat app that would run in my space to let my customers/prospects click to chat with me (on one of my Windows PC’s) real time or leave me a message if I’m away or don’t respond in X seconds.

I’m not familiar with any applications like that unfortunately. A big thing to consider on that is whether or not our shared servers are going to meet the requirements for such a software. If you find some that you like, please post back with links to the requirements and we should be able to advise if they can be used here. You can always look at a virtual dedicated server as it doesn’t have the same type of restrictions that a shared environment requires.
Hopefully someone can post on here that’s used something like this on our shared hosting before.

I am looking at CometChat. Here’s a link to the system requirements http://www.cometchat.com/documentation/getting-started/system-requirements . Perhaps you could check them out and see if we could use it in GoDaddy shared Linux space.
GoDaddy is missing an revenue opportunity, here. If you offered a service which your customers could plug into their sites which would let their site visitors open a chat window your customers or send an email if the customer is unavailable, I would pay for that service. The advantage would be to avoid adding access to our sites for some outside service provider (such as LivePerson, etc). It would ALL stay “in house” at the GoDaddy servers. Much more secure.

@howardk2 – It looks like CometChat should be compatible with your hosting account.
That appears to be more of a ‘chat room’ type application, but it sounds like you are looking more for live help chat like:

@ JustinC (and Nate D) -
So will/does CRAFTY SYNTAX (www.craftysyntax.com) work on Godaddy’s 4GH Shared Hosting Linux/PHP hosting accounts?
I imagine it should. Please let us know. Thanks guys.

@mrchucky – It should work in the 4GH. CraftySyntax is a PHP application.
