I don’t understand… this legislation could create a nightmare for social blog and networking sites that use GoDaddys services to host their content. I would like to believe this is an oversite… does anyone know if they have actually, consciously lent their support to the SOPA initiative?

Pretty bad PR move, in all honesty. I would very much doubt you have such a high SOPA backed client base. In fact, judging solely off of the “boycott godaddy” and “switch your domains immediately” forums, blog posts, and articles that have so quickly popped up, it would have seemed logical to at least be one of the silent supporters if not an outspoken opponent.

Just my two cents.

Due to Godaddy’s support of the House SOPA bill I am making preparations to move my domains and hosting. This will be my recommendation to my clients as well.

GoDaddy has been quick to disable domains at the request of the Government. Their support of SOPA is not surprising, but is also unacceptable to me as a customer. Unless there’s a change in tune from GoDaddy I will be transferring all of my domains elsewhere.

Because of GoDaddy’s support of SOPA, I will be transferring all of my domains to another registrar.

Yes this unacceptable. I will be ending my business with godaddy on DEC 29th.

You should stay out of politics.

I am in the process of transferring all of my business to another company because of GoDaddy’s support of SOPA.

SOPA is the biggest threat to freedom of speech and the internet as a whole, and any web host that supports it does not deserve business.

Search around; a lot of people are rightfully offended that their web host would support this.

Maybe GoDaddy figures that, with 50 million + registered domains, the number of people that will actually leave is small enough to be considered an acceptable loss.
Honestly, though, this is a TERRIBLE PR move on GoDaddy’s part. SOPA and ProtectIP are hideously dangerous pieces of legislation that will absolutely destroy the internet as we know it. The assault that is being perpetrated on the general public by the RIAA and MPAA (let’s face it, they’re the ones behind this legislation) will absolutely decimate your business if allowed to continue. Use a little common sense GoDaddy. Please. Support your customers. Not censorship.

Incredible. Dumb. There is a big online reaction to this. Do a twitter search for @Godaddy and see it for yourself. Expect a massive drop in business and goodwill. Always remember who pays your bills, GoDaddy!

Why is it bad? Protecting copyright is good, but SOPA or Protect IP is not the solution, those are in fact incredibly bad and misguided solutions.

Looks like it’s time to start moving my domains and hosting elsewhere.

I was shocked to learn of GoDaddy’s support for SOPA. I have transferred 6 domains to another registrar. I hope they reconsider this position.

In response to your company’s support of SOPA, I’m transferring my domains and am no longer your customer as of today.
