Joomla 2.5 Availability

When is Joomla 2.5 availability expected?
adamr said 3 months, 2 weeks ago:
@whitmark
I do not currently have any details on when we will be offering Joomla 2.5 through the Go Daddy Hosting Connection. If you already have Joomla installed, you can adjust your notification settings at http://hostingconnection.godaddy.com to receive an email when the new update is available. You are also welcome to upgrade Joomla manually.

Keep in mind that if you upgrade manually, future upgrades through the Hosting Control Center may not be successful.
If you don’t have Joomla installed already, you are welcome to install the new version of Joomla manually.

Thanks Adam. Yes, I already have Joomla 1.7.3 installed. Joomla updates seem pretty straightforward. What is the downside of doing the upgrade manually and forgoing future updates through the Hosting Control Center?

I have found if I update my sites manually, then when GoDaddy has it ready it tells me I need an upgrade, but I already have it. Then I am out of sync which I don’t like. So I prefer to wait for Godaddy’s updates, though they are a little behind. Good side of that is they let most bugs get shaken out first, and if something does not go well, you can always roll back with GoDaddy. This has saved me on several occasions.
Joomla has released security update 1.7.4 which I am hoping GoDaddy provides soon, so I can keep everything in sync.

As @ghanlon already pointed out, my favorite feature of the Go Daddy Hosting Connection is the ability to roll back an upgrade. You may still be able to roll back a Joomla upgrade manually, but being able to do it with one click of the mouse is pretty awesome.

@Whitmark and @Adamr,
How does one find out the expected release date of the update to Joomla 2.5 on the godaddy servers? I really like the new features seemed they stream lined them to be a little less complex. But I don’t want to go through the long and tedious process of doing a manual install.
On a side note my website is constantly getting this error when I try to load two pages at once Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in D:Hosting8466979htmllibrariesjoomlapluginplugin.php on line 10.
I have talked to my ISP and it is not them and I have been told it has to do with having my site hosted on a server that is over populated or has way to short of a timeout settings. Even if I go into the .php files and change the time out settings it still happens. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since this is my company website and it looks really bad having a site that won’t load on the first click. I don’t have that many mods running maybe like 3 or 4 if that. Godaddy tech support tested it on their end but did not get the error it seems to only happen if you are trying to load 2 webpages or websites at the same time or around the same time.
Thanks,

@alaskan_grunt
We do not have an area that shows the expected release dates of upcoming application versions offered through the Go Daddy Hosting Connection. Making sure you’re subscribed to updates is the best way to find out when a new version is available.
You may want to check to make sure that you are using the correct php.ini file in your hosting account. If you’re running PHP4, you’ll want to label the file php.ini. If you’re running PHP5, you’ll want to label the file php5.ini.
This is the line that should be added to the php.ini/php5.ini file:
max_execution_time = 60
Viewing or Changing Your PHP Language Version
Hope that helps!

You can use Admin Tools, free extension. Just read that sites like godaddy are having problems. Here is the article:
alaskan_grunt said 3 months, 2 weeks ago:
@Adamr Where on earth would I find the PHP.ini files in my file directory? Would it be in the root folder as I do not see any .ini files in there? If this is the case that might explain why my site is so slow to load or even fails.
@t13prodigy Thank you I knew shared hosting sites were having problems and such this is why I am setting aside so much of each months profits from my business so that I can get a 100% up time by having my own server at my business with a mirrored version off site. I will definitelygive admin tools a shot and see if that can fix some or all of the site problems. I am very new to joomla and CMS software. Been out of the webdesign field for 9 years so your talking to an HTML guy hell CSS was just starting to come out back then.

The php.ini/php5.ini file would be in the root of your hosting account. If you do not already have one, you can create one using a text editor and then upload it to your hosting account.
Can I add a PHP initialization file to my hosting account?

Looks like 2.5.0 has already received a security update with 2.5.1 out now.
joshlcs said 3 months, 1 week ago:
Godaddy needs to push an update to php5.3 before they can release an update for Joomla 2.5.
adamr said 3 months, 1 week ago:
@joshlcs
Our 4GH hosting plans currently support PHP5.3. In the 4GH hosting environment, you can add an entry to the .htaccess file to use PHP5.3.

Now that 2.5.1 is out, how will the Hosting Connection handle higher version upgrade? Say to like, 2.6 or 3.0? I switched to installing Joomla manually when 1.6/1.7 became available and stopped using the Hosting Connection. I want to go back to using the Hosting Connection, but I fear I will lose the flexibility of upgrading my Joomla installs when newer versions become available. Also, there has been recent issues with installing 1.7 and 2.5 to GoDaddy hosting accounts, and the Hosting Connection seems to be the only way to do this currently. Thank you in advance for a quick reply.

@zachiler
Installing Joomla through the Hosting Control Center does not prevent you from upgrading your Joomla application manually. If there ever comes a time when you are not satisfied with the upgrade options made available through the Hosting Control Center, you are welcome to upgrade the application manually. What kind of issues are you having with getting Joomla 1.7 and 2.5 installed manually? From my past experience working with customers trying to install Joomla manually, issues were typically related to incorrect database information being used when going through the installation process.
