i can upload extensions only if i manually unzip and move them with an ftp client (filezilla) to install from a tmp directory. if i try to use the regular upload option i get “There was an error uploading this file to the server.
Unable to find install package”

i dont know what to do, please someone has to have used godaddy to install joomla and had this issue.
any suggestions? tried using joomla forums and none of the suggestions i received there fixed it.

@jacobkral

This is typically a permissions issue, which you can review using the following help article:

http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/2535

Although you may have already tried this as it is the most common answer provided on Joomla forums that you have already checked. You can contact our Support Team directly with your account information to ensure this is not being caused by an error on the server.

In your php5.ini file, change it to:

cgi.fix_pathinfo=1
upload_max_filesize = 32M
memory_limit=128M
upload_tmp_dir=/tmp

This may take a few minutes to work, the server needs to find the new info in the file. This has worked for me on two Joomla 1.7.3 installs on Godaddy.

Thanks fabutron. Your solution worked. I’ve wasted about 10 hours on this problem which godaddy should fix!!! I had been unable to install any joomla extensions once I upgraded from 1.6 to 1.7. The problem didn’t exist for 1.5 and 1.6.

Hi, I got a similar problem when trying to upload picts with Joomla. I am hosting on Linux shared account, installed Joomla yesterday via godaddy and when trying to upload a 19 kB pict(s) via media manager in Joomla get the message: “An Error Occurred: This file is too large to upload”
Checked all the settings in Joomla as well on my hosting account and all looks ok. Is there any reason and solution to this problem…??

@bart2k2

Were you able to edit your php5.ini using the advice that @abutron offered? Here’s an article to review to ensure that the file is taking affect:

Why isn’t my php.ini file taking effect?

FINALLY! Thank you so much! I can’t believe Godaddy has not fixed this issue yet! It is ridiculous to go through all this trouble just to install extensions or upload pictures in Joomla!
