Moodle 2.0 Upgrade
ministerg said 2 years, 4 months ago:
Looking forward to the 2.0 Moodle application. I understand there’s lot of large new features, some completely rewritten features, and hundreds of bug fixes. Moodle 2.0, the biggest release ever – two and a half years of work by hundreds of people – is now available! It contains a huge number of core changes to the platform, most of which are designed to give 3rd party developers more flexibility, scalability and safety. Released in December. Now waiting for GoDaddy Hosting Connection to offer patch. Come on GoDaddy. Waiting on you. Thanks!

@ministerg
We don’t currently have an estimated time frame as to when the upgrade will be available through the Go Daddy Hosting Connection. However, you can always manually install or upgrade your application, if needed.

I would like to upgrade also at some point….

@ministerg, @ALCZAR,
There is still no official news on when we will offer Moodle 2.0 upgrades through our Hosting Connection application manager.
If you would like to upgrade to Moodle 2.0, you are more than welcome to manually upgrade or install a fresh Moodle 2.0 installation into your shared hosting account till we have officially made this available as part of our automated installation system.

Be careful though, at this point the content on Moodle 9 is not compatible with 10. That mean you will have to redo all your classroom content.

moodle 2.2 is now available but it needs php 5.3 which is not installed on shared hosting.. So even manual install is not possible. How can I install php 5.3 on shared linux hasting. upgrade option to 4GH hosting also does not work.i have sent so many support tickets but no one is able to help with the share hosting to 4 GH upgrade.

@kirtimansharma
If you want your 4GH hosting account to use PHP 5.3 instead of PHP 5.2, you’ll want to add the following line to your .htaccess file:
AddHandler x-httpd-php5-3 .php
If you’re having trouble getting the hosting plan upgraded to 4GH, you’ll want to have our tech guys review your hosting account. There are certain features that can restrict your ability to upgrade to 4GH, like having Java enabled.

I attempted to upgrade to the latest version of Moodle, which is 2.2.2 (1.9.17 won’t even be supported soon) and was unable to write to the database. I believe there are some permission errors. I tried a clean install of 2.2.2 but if I make the folder temporarily writeable then Moodle won’t install because it says it’s not a secure location. There is supposed to be an automatic link for upgrade that comes up in a message in the admin section of Moodle, but it is not appearing, and I believe that might have something to do with how the program was installed. If anyone has a solution on this I would love to know how to get a more current version of Moodle on GoDaddy. Thanks!

@tera
I downloaded Moodle from http://download.moodle.org/ and was able to get Moodle 2.2.2 installed on one of our 4GH shared hosting plans with no issue. I also did not have to manually adjust any permissions before attempting the installation. Where exactly are you having trouble going through the installation process?

Hi Adam, can you please tell me how you went about installing the latest version of Moodle?
A walkthrough would be great, because I can’t seem to get Moodle 2.2.2 working.
endlessn said 1 year, 2 months ago:
Can you please post a guide about installing Moodle 2.2.2 on a 4GH hosting plan, since you managed to do it? I think it would help a lot of people. Thanks!
adamr said 1 year, 2 months ago:
@endlessn
First, you’ll want to setup a MySQL database:
Setting up a MySQL or SQL Server Database for Your Hosting Account
You’ll then want to unarchive the installation .zip file within the hosting account:
Unarchiving Files and Directories with Your Hosting Account
After you unarchive the file, you’ll go to the URL where the file was extracted and go through the steps of the web installer. You will be able to locate your database information using this article:
Locating Your Database’s Host Name
If you continue to have trouble, please post clarification of where exactly you are having problems. Thanks!
