Hosted Exchange Spam FAIL
chad_garber said 1 year ago:
Yes, the exact same thing has happened to me. I have used this exchange account for years now and spam was always something that could easily be handled by using outlook’s spam filter but around March 2nd or 3rd, the spam started coming at unacceptable levels blocking them with outlook’s spam filter no longer works! Go daddy said its not on their side, but it has to be!

@chad_garber,
Have you submitted .eml copies of the SPAM messages you have been receiving to our Live Support for review? If not, I would recommend emailing these as attachments to support@godaddy.com so that these can be further reviewed.

Here’s the latest – IF it gets posted in the forum (perhaps the formatting, ease of use of these forums should be an indication of GD service?)
“I’m sorry to report that plans have changed, things got pushed back. Unfortunately, I don’t have a new ETA.”
Direct message sent by Go Daddy to you on May 02, 8:19 PM.
Oh, and no message through “official channels” wherein paying customers are kept up to date, this is from their Twitter feed. Good ting my administrative contact info is up to date, right GD Support!?

So it’s not just me. And calls to support have yielded answers like ” that’s because of the sites your going to and entering your email address”, and “it’s a shared exchange environment and you can not change the level of spam filtering at the server”. I have an answer for you… I’ll take the few thousand dollars that I spent with spamdaddy to someone who can control spam if you can’t or won’t. I moved to GoDaddy for better service, nit more headaches.

@preptile,
I am sorry to hear about the issues you have been encountering with higher than usual SPAM. I can assure you that our Email and Development teams are doing everything they can to reduce the occurrences of these messages from being received.
We are always making updates to our email services to help reduce SPAM activity through our email services, including adding new filter systems and additional services to supplement our own filtration methods. I know some newer solutions are in the works to assist in this matter, but I have no specific details on when they will become implemented at this time. If new details are brought to my attention, I will be sure to follow up on this thread.
Unfortunately not all SPAM can be stopped, which is why we continuously make adjustments and improvements to our system to help reduce the occurrences. One of the methods necessary is to review copies of messages being received or otherwise reported as SPAM. If you are not reporting these messages, it makes it difficult for our Email team to review and adjust our filters as necessary.

I understand that all spam can not be stopped. But this is an incredible amount of spam, that multiple users are having issues with, and the answer is “not all spam can be stopped”? I didn’t have this kind of spam issue with my previous provider. Apparently the found a way to stop more of it than GoDaddy did. And as far as reporting, I have tried to send these spam emails to support@godaddy.com and they bounced. Maybe the internal spam filter is better than the one customers get.
I depend on email to operate my business and the fact that we can not get something done about what appears to be a widespread problem is very discouraging.

@preptile try sending Hosted Exchange spam in batches as .eml forwards to this address it’s worked for me previously keep attachment size to near 3MB to be safe for being kicked for too big a file apsubmit@secureserver.net
PS. Last night (May 7 ~11:45PM Eastern) received update from Peter S. in support “our update has already been rolled out as of this writing. If the issue persists, please feel free to submit fresh examples so that we may better assist you.”
exch_spam_fail said 1 year ago:
Also… checking user accounts in my Hosted group… seems whatever this “update” it’s not an instant fix… as there are at least a dozen spam freely flowing as of this morning May 8 9:30 Am Eastern…
The saga continues…

@exch_spam_fail,
I was just checking up on this matter with our development team for Hosted Exchange accounts. Right now they are still working on some additional updates which have not been released just yet. If I get some additional details regarding their release, I will definitely follow up on this thread.

At this time, our development staff is still investigating better ways to prevent spam in Microsoft Hosted exchange email. Please understand that this could take some time, as Hosted Exchange is a Microsoft product and it takes the combined effort of both our companies to get a remedy in place. We appreciate your patience as we work towards a resolution in this matter.

I am also having problems with INSANE AMOUNTS of spam. At this point I get hundreds of spam emails a day and there is not a good method to filter the spam. I am considering moving away from Godaddy Exchange Server if there are not better ways to reduce the amount of spam. Hopefully support will be able to assist.

I average a dozen Junk email per day. 99% caught by filter. Other users in my organization easily double that amount. These are obviously blatant bulk spam messages. GD why is it so impossible for them to not even make it into Junk? Is it an Outlook 2007 limitation? If that is the case I am more than happy to “upgrade” to Hosted service requiring Outlook 2010. I will pay double if it at all eases the Junk email onslaught.

I am happy to share that we recently made an infrastructure enhancement that will significantly improve the efficiency of our SPAM filtering for Hosted Exchange. The end result: Less SPAM to your INBOX! As always, please feel free to send us your comments and suggestions.
