Is there a way to send a download link to a specific person’s e-mail such when they click the link they are able to download the file?

You can follow these instructions to email a link from Online Storage:

@bill_stanley,

Indeed there is! You have two ways to send something via email, actually.

To do as you ask and send someone a link, you can simply create a public link for the file you wish to send, and then email that link to the intended recipient. If you prefer, you can even password protect this public link so that only those who know the password will be able to download it (and when you send the recipient the email about the public link, just make sure you tell them the password).

If the file is small enough, you can even send an email to the recipient with the file as an attachment and not even need to create a public link.

You’ll find details on those operations in the help topics below. Let us know if you need any more assistance.

Thank you for that information. One further question: After I e-mail a password-protected download link is there any way to tell if the person actually downloaded the file (like the date and time of the download)?

@bill_stanley,

The answer to your question is: sort of; you can tell if any person has downloaded the file, but not who and not when. Let me explain.

When you make a file or folder public, you’ll notice a link icon on it when you’re in your account (where exactly the link shows up depends on what view you’re in, but it looks like a chain link). You can hover over this link and it gives you one or two pieces of information:

* The date the public link was created (for both files and folders)
* The number of times the file has been downloaded (only for files)

Now, since you’re password protecting the file, it requires whoever wants to get to that file to know the password. If they don’t know the password, they can’t even get in to see what the file is, let alone download it (and this doesn’t increment that count). So either the person you sent the password to downloaded it, or someone they passed the link AND the password on to did.

I hope this works for you. And if you need more assistance, let us know.
