Extremely Slow Downloads
extremely_slow said 1 year, 2 months ago:
I signed up to the online storage a few days ago, and I am very pleased with the upload speed I am getting – consistantly around 800kB – 1MB per second.
However I cannot believe how slow the download is, I cannot get more than 50kB per second, this is more than 1000 times slower than my 50Mb/s cable broadband connection!! I have tried downloading using FTP and the website and the mapped drive – all are very very slow. Is there an explanation for this? Does GoDaddy limit the download speeds?

With the Drive Map, you can set the bandwidth limitations for both uploading and downloading your files:

I already have this set up, with no limit on bandwidth. In any case this would not effect FTP transfers.
Any further ideas?

You may want to contact your ISP if this slowness continues, we do not limit download speeds.

Good news – The download speeds are now very good, around 2-3 MB/s.
I haven’t changed anything so I have no idea why the speeds have improved so much, hopefully they will stay fast, if not I will contact my ISP and update this thread.
Thank you for your replies.

Uploading finished. It cost 47 hours (28 Gb). How can i manage my backup’s with that speed? Please check this problem.
Thank you.

@lisiren
As we do not limit download speeds you may want to contact your ISP to confirm your download speed. Additionally, you may also want to compress your files to minimize their size to speed up your sync:

Hi Tim,
I am ALSO having this problem. Stating that GoDaddy does not limit download speeds is NOT addressing the problem. I can upload files for transfer using other online storage and the speeds are vastly greater than those experienced through my GoDaddy hosted storage account. So, what gives? Are there firewall settings that need to be changed?

I find the upload speed painfully slow. I paid for a year but I’m a couple weeks in and disappointed with how slow it is. Imagine how long it would take to transfer the 100G limit I have!!

Will try FTP option and see how it goes.
