Any Real Store Sites up? Would like to look and see what you have.
EmilyThePost said 2 years, 9 months ago:
I have not had much luck finding links to real stores using QSC, please post your link and I will comment on yours if you will do the same with mine. Been working on it for about a month and it is about ready to go. If you think something on mine stinks, say so I can take it at this point. http://www.emilyandthepostcardguy.com/
Thanks in advance, Mike Cooper

Hello Mike,
Looking at your site right now.

It’s nice to be able to see other sites. I’ll post back on what I think after I look at it.
Cheers,
Anna

Anna, dang, good job. Are you a Graphic Designer or did you get somebody to do it for you. One this I did notice is that you do not say on any page where you are located? City, state. I think that should be listed even though you don’t have a store front? Gives me a better feeling that you are someplace. I am taking notes on your site, will get back with any other comments. Thanks, Mike

FWIW…here’s mine:
http://www.funkyhomefinds.com.
Regarding your site, my first suggestion is that perhaps you add a few of your offerings on the bottom (just add them to the “Top Level” category as well as their current state category). I always like seeing a site’s actual products on their home page.
I’d also consider putting your logo at the top. The plain text looks kind of boring, but your logo is pretty cool. And make the logo a link to your home page…pretty much SOP for web sites.

Funky thanks, you are correct, top is boring, I will work with the top and logo. I’m looking at your right now. Mike

Our site has been doing pretty good business since I made the changes to the layout, the way the categories flowed, etc. I did have to do quite a bit of work on custom category graphics, but I am happy with the way it turned out. In any case, its a working store, using the QSC.
http://www.HotTubParts.com and the interactive site I am working on that links back to the cart, http://hottubparts.com/specs.htm (once you chose a model, it takes you to a hover state where each part links back to the QSC)

I’m not a graphic designer but I do know someone that is. I like your site. Interesting concept on a product line. May I ask are you scanning in the post cards? I ask because some of them are very grainy from the offset mosaic. There is a setting in your scanner called Descreen choose that and turn off anything using unsharp mask. Those two settings will help you get a clearer image. I do agree with FHF about having images on the front page. So glad to see you are thinking about doing that. Now, this is my own personal pet peeve… the color of red that you choose for saying that its in beta contrasts sharply with the grey and its hard for me to see it.
After that I love your logo… it’s cute and the site looks really good.
I do appreciate what you had to say about having at least a state listed (being that we are a internet only gift basket company) It does give it a more tangible feeling behind it. So I will list that
)
Cheers,
Anna

Anna: You are correct some of the cards are grainy some were scanned almost 10 years ago. Reason I put them up is that I had that part done on about 10,000 or so. I was on ebay for almost 9 years, got out of the business and now going back in it as my Daughter who got out of College two years ago has not found a job yet. Heck, thought that I would start this for her and see what happens. I am getting better images with the new stuff, no of it is up yet. Thanks, Mike

Forgot to ask: ToadallyGB, AVHotTubParts, fhf are your stores using a Templates from QSC or did you do something from scratch that I can’t see how to do.? Mike

Mike,
I understand. Good for you for restarting it. I’ll bookmark it and keep checking back.
Personally we are using a template.

VisionsOfIndia:
You have a beautiful site. Colors are great. Never even heard the word Bindis, but it got my attention. I looked around and if it is working, don’t fix anything. Great site. Did see that you had 22 items in the TOP CatMike, I have put one row per suggestions of:fhf

But the more I think about it, i don’t like it. You scroll all the way down ie on your site, 22 items and then you have to go back to top to find the cat that you are looking for. In my case I have 50 states plus 4-5 other cats. I don’t see a need for this, will do more thinging about it. What you think?
visionsofindia said 2 years, 9 months ago:
Thank you for your reply, Mike.
Yes, 22 items is too much. But I’ve never been a fan of the ‘carrousel’ type template. True, customers have to scroll down to see the categories (which are also on the left side) but I found the carrousel to be more cumbersome.
What has helped is having my phone number and location (no physical store) mentioned prominently.
Also, a Facebook page and having a link to it on my home page helps quite a bit. Adds legitimacy. I wish QSC had a way of comments by customers being posted somewhere on the website.

@EmilyThePost: My site is based on a standard QSC template. no CSS.
I just squeeze a lot of use out of the header, footer and welcome areas.
And, BTW, I really like seeing just a few of your postcards on your home page. I think 3 is a good number, too.
