Coupon Confusion

I see where the consumer is now able to apply a coupon in the shopping cart. GREAT IDEA! But, they do not see the actual price until the second page of checkout. BAD IDEA! It gives the impression the coupon isn’t working. The price in the shopping cart and 1st page of checkout (address page) remains unchanged. Only when they get to the third page (payment page) do they see the coupon applied. A lot of people are never going to get to that page at all if they think the coupon isn’t being applied. When they enter the coupon, they need to see the discount immediately. Without seeing that, the promotional aspect of the coupon is seriously diminished. Can we get this fixed?

One other concern: there is now a place to apply a coupon in the shopping cart and also a place to apply a coupon on the 2nd page of checkout (payment page). Again, this will cause confusion. I’m sure some customers will try to enter the coupon code twice – once in the shopping cart and once on the payment page. I think it would be better to show the coupon field once, not twice.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and concerns. I will forward this information on to our Development Team for review and consideration.

I couldn’t agree more. It is imperative that the Order Summary on the billing and shipping pages reflect the coupon code discount, especially now that you have also placed the coupon code field on the add-to-cart page.

I like that the coupon field now shows early in the process but agree that it may be confusing having it in two areas. Guess the worst case is the customer enters the code a second time and receives the message that it has already been applied.

We have a big coupon code promotion going out early next week for Memorial Weekend and need the Order Summary fixed ASAP!

While we are on the subject it would also be great if you could highlight the text in the Order Summary that mentions the discount. I’d do it myself with css but the div statement related to the text has no class or id. Most of my customers do not see the discount text once it has been applied because it just blends in with the other text.

@JasonP,

Any update on when the Order Summary will be fixed to show the coupon discount on the billing and shipping pages? At least ask the developers to temporarily eliminate the coupon field from the add-to-cart page (a recent feature) until the Order Summary can be accurately reflect the discounts on all pages.

I am getting VERY nervous about the coupon promotion we are going to be running early next week through Memorial Day weekend. My phones will be ringing off the hook the way the developers have things now. Please try to get them to understand that this may seem minor but it is not and they can at least implement a temporary fix to avoid the confusion.

I agree, this is something that needs urgent attention. We are having customers abandoning their carts and emailing us asking why our coupons are not working. I know the coupon applies later in the checkout process but for our customers that’s confusing. The coupon code box either needs to be removed from the first page of checkout or immediately update the order total when first applied.I hope the GD developers correct this soon. It shouldn’t be a matter ‘up for consideration in future updates’. Its costing us sales and needs fixed now.

This is something that wasn’t broken a week ago. Now it’s been broken since last week going into Memorial Day weekend and no word form anyone at GoDaddy that they recognize the severity of what they have done.

SIMPLE TEMPORARY FIX…REMOVE THE COUPON FIELD FROM THE ADD-TO-CART PAGE like it was before the last update until the Order Summary can properly reflect the discount on all pages. Why is nobody responding to this problem at GoDaddy?!?!?!

@swimsweat,

Our apologies for the delay. No new information has come to our attention at this time. However, I have taken a moment to directly bring this up to our developers once more to be sure this is being looked into and quickly addressed. As soon as some new details are made available to us, we will be sure to follow up on this thread.

Hi Christopher G! This is a problem for us also. We use a lot of coupon codes and since this new change, we have been getting a lot of calls and emails from customers because they don’t understand why the discount is not showing in their shopping cart when they add a coupon. Please push the developers to fix this soon!

As for as the ability to add a coupon before the checkout process begins, I like the idea as long as the discount shows at that time. But for a customer to apply a coupon and then not see the discount, I can understand their confusion and frustration, so please try to encourage the developers to fix this as soon as possible. Thanks!

Due to the situation that GoDaddy has created and not responded to with the urgency required I have cancelled our Memorial Weekend coupon campaign. Needless to say I am very disappointed that GD failed to heed our warnings on the serious nature of this issue. A 5 minute short-term fix to temporarily remove the coupon field on the add-to-cart page has been totally ignored for a week and could have allowed us to proceed with a very important promotion during our peak selling season.

I have been using QSC for over 6 years and have never seen an urgent issue created by an update been given such low priority, especially when the temporary fix was so simple. I respect the developers but they are software developers, we are retailers. @bowman721, @Oreilly8189 and @Boyzman and I are all good retailers and have spent much of our own time helping others on this forum with QSC questions. Respect us when we tell you that your software update is causing huge unnecessary problems and give it the proper urgency that it requires.

I cannot make up for the loss of sales this weekend and I am finding it very difficult to not be angry about it because it was all avoidable and correctable.

@Boyzman, @swimsweat,

My apologies for the delay once more.

Just to let you know; your concerns are understandable and shared by our developers. For that reason, this issue is not being treated as a low priority. However, it is a bit more involved of a process to address.

Our developers have been diligently working to get an update made that should help make this far less confusing for your shoppers. I do not have specifics on how much longer it will be till the the release, but I can assure you they are continuing to do what they can to have a fix out before Memorial Day.

Coupon codes will be important for me before I purchase my store. I have a lot of experience with e-commerce and its important to give total clarity to a customer when they are getting ready to check out. I will say that Yahoo did it pretty well (as far as coupon codes) but, Yahoo long term seems unstable from a company perspective. Again, I want to choose GoDaddy, and am willing to learn, but Coupon Code clarity at checkout is not an option. My store wont open for another 2 months, so I hope this issue is worked out by then.

The coupon problem has been addressed for now. It was removed from the shopping cart and left as is on the payment page. Apparently part of an update implemented today.

Hi Everyone! I like the change that was implemented today. That works much better than what we had a few days ago. In a perfect world, I would much prefer that the discount show right away in the shopping cart, but at least now the customer will see that the discount will be applied during their checkout which should eliminate customer confusion and complaints. Thanks GoDaddy developers for fixing this issue.
