Google product category question
joshr said 1 year, 2 months ago:
Hello jana,
I wouldn’t call it an easy workaround, you will spend a lot of time copying and pasting all those lines of code for each product. You will still have to edit the xml every time you add or remove a product as well. The post, courtesy of fellow user jchiles, lists all the instructions needed witch I followed with success. Good Luck!

I am also concerned about changing my category structure to match Google. The Google taxonomy would confuse people coming to my site. I’ve only had quick shopping cart for a couple months and really didn’t know I would be facing this issue. Google is now sending me email about my categories and soon my products will be suspended. I sure hope there is a solution soon. Will GoDaddy send out an email to us if there is an update to this problem?

I also recieved an email. Need to get a fix on this and I sure hope its not going to make me go into over 400 products on my website and modify each one. That would be insaine. Would be nice to just have a feature or option when you go into your main products screen that you can check which products, then up above choose the google taxonomy path.

I thought it was me but its Godaddy. WONDERFUL the fix is just a cheap way to avoid upgrading QSC by getting all the customers to do their work for them. I’m P.O.d to say the least

To all who have posted on this thread,
I have recently spoken to developers; as they are also actively watching these threads closely.
Currently they are working on a solution that will allow Quick Shopping Cart users to update the Google Product Category on each product that will be separate from your store’s current categories. This field will be presented within the Product Editor. There will also be a way to bulk assign the Google Product Categories using the Excel templates.
Developers have also been looking into the support that Google provides for direct integration for the Taxonomy and found that it is a much larger and longer initiative to accomplish. The goal is to provide Quick Shopping Cart users with a way you can use the Google Taxonomy today; as well as in the future, as effective and easily as possible.

Well I guess i have a little egg on my face. I posted on Bob’s blog and I’ll be darn if they didn’t call me. Missed the call but they left a concerned message and frankly earned a lot of respect from me. i’ll back off and be patient.

@peterjbh,
Thank you for this update. Your patience is truly appreciated.
As I mentioned before, I will keep tabs on this matter and post updates when they become available.

I received my warning email today. Is there an ETA on when this issue will be resolved? I REALLY don’t want to move my store, but if my items won’t show up on a Google search I will have no choice.
chrisg said 1 year, 2 months ago:
@sheila60,
Unfortunately, I do not have specific information on an ETA for the update I previously mentioned. I can assure you that our developers are working continuously on this to have it released as quickly as possible.
If any new information regarding a release is brought to my attention, I will be sure to follow up on this thread.

I really hope they have this done also before Google decides to remove all my products! I also will have no other choice if its not fixed but to go a different route with my online store. Since there is just far to much traffic on Google Shopping to lose the ability to have our products on there! I hope its not like the last time they ran into this problem when Google first implemented it and took months to get done. Its kind of disappointing that GoDaddy dropped the ball on this considering Google is already removing products and are continuing to do so throughout the next few weeks. You would think they would have had this worked out before hand considering its a requirement that stated it would be implemented during the first phase….

As a customer who was once frustrated and after talking to the corporate office I truly believe they will get this resolved before google makes any rash decisions. Consider what they are trying to do. Work with one of the most secretive companies in the world who protects their algorithms to the nth degree. Common sense should tell us it’s in Godaddy’s best interest and Google’s best interest this gets resolved and I believe it will.

@ChrisG: thank you for the response. I put in a feedback request directly to the developers this morning and received a canned, totally unhelpful answer, so I’m thrilled to hear that they’re actively working on a solution. I think the hidden attribute idea is exactly the right approach–we specify it on our end, it submits to google’s feed, but the customer never knows the difference. Thanks,
Jana

I wish to stress the fact that we have nearly 2000 products that we can’t afford to have disappear from the Google Products search. I have been fighting this issue for awhile now. We are already looking into other options in case this isn’t resolved soon. We have purchased quite a few GoDaddy add-ons and I just want to stress that we’d have to take all of our business elsewhere. Our renewal is up soon and we do not plan to renew until we’re out of Google limbo. Thank you.

I do think google plays a role in this as well. Lets not totally let them off the hook. I’m contacting google as well. I suspect a lot of shopping carts are having issues. If google would just let us set our taxonomy in google merchant instead of the shopping cart this would be a non issue.

I hear you, peterjbh. However, We’re not directly paying Google for a service. We are paying GoDaddy. With that said, it can’t hurt to contact Google. Sure hope it is resolved soon…
