Description Tag – explanation is not clear

You’re exactly right. Though the Description does not display on your web page, it shows up on the search engine results page, just beneath the page title. A good description should accurately describe what the page is about and encourage users to click your listing. Incorporating your page’s keywords is a good way to accomplish both of these. Also, keep in mind Google and other search engines will truncate your description if it is too long, so make sure it’s brief (150-160 characters is ideal).
