Anyone using Site Analytics with Wordpress?
sacbish said 2 years, 7 months ago:
I use Wordpress for my site and host a podcast on it. I am looking for someone who also uses Wordpress to ask if I am putting the HTML script in the right place. It appears that I am, but I want to be sure since I post all podcast audio files as “Posts” in Wordpress on the home page, which not a typical “page” with the html code “”. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it. Like I said, Site Analytics appears to be working, but I have NO IDEA how to decipher how or if my podcasts are being downloaded. Thanks.

@sacbish This type of code is usually placed in the footer of the template itself in Wordpress. You will want to edit the following page:
/wp-content/themes/{themename}/footer.php
You will see a tag in that file. Put the code before that tag (instead of after), which should work.
I hope this helps!

Okay, I have another question concerning site analytics with wordpress and podcasting. When i log into site analytics and go to “Server” tab> “Files”, I get a list of non-page hits and downloads. I see that I am getting hundreds of requests for my podcast files. My question is, is there a way of knowing if they are actually being downloaded (if so, what IP address?) or if they are getting hit by a bot or spider? So far, i have not found Site Analytics very helpful in finding out if anyone is downloading my podcast. For all I know bots, spiders and search engines are registering all the hits. Is there a way for me to find out with Site Analytics?
Thanks

@sacbish,
Sorry for the delay in responding back to this.
I just checked with our Advanced Support about this. As advanced the details reported by Site Analytics are, it unfortunately does not have a way of tracking file downloads.
IP addresses that have accessed your hosting are reported. However, this report doesn’t include specific files accessed by that address.
I can definitely see the benefit in being able to keep track of and view this sort of information on your site. I’ll gladly pass this along to our developers for review and consideration in adding this as a feature to a future update of Site Analytics. If you would like to add any additional suggestions or feedback in this regard, feel free to directly submit this to suggestions@godaddy.com.
In the meantime, you might benefit from setting up a custom script that can track your podcast downloads. There may even be a WordPress plug-in that could do just this for you. Matter of fact, I did find one from a simple search engine result at the URL below:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/download-monitor/
I hope this is able to assist you further.
