Help change primary domain
max chat said 2 years, 6 months ago:
I am have unlimited hosting plan.
I want to change my primary domain name to others. I have read and followed the steps in http://help.godaddy.com/article/4067
However, the Change Primary button is inactive which means it is in gray and unclickable.
I want to make my root directory non-web accessible.
Please help.
Thank You

@max chat,
There is usually only two reasons that button will be grayed out: the account is currently pending a change, or there is an SSL associated with the primary domain. For the pending change, you will need to allow the process to complete, and for the SSL, it will need to be revoked.
http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/4747
After that, you should be able to create a false domain name for the account, which will make the root non web accessible.
Hope this helps,
Jason

Thank you so much Jason.
I will try to have the SSL to be revoked. I will reply with the result shortly.

Thank You Jason.
Yeah, it works after revoked the SSL.
Now SSL is deleted.
Is there a way to get it back?
In addition, how can I use SSL for non primary domain name?

A revocation essentially cancels your certificate. At this point, you’ll need to purchase a new one all together. If you contact our Support Team, you may be able to get a refund of the time remaining on your revoked certificate. Once you have the new certificate, you’ll be able to use your primary domain name during the setup.

Late response but still. At least for the other viewers.
Keep in mind that SSL certificates work to secure *domains*. In other words; if you have a website “www.mydomain.com” and you wish to secure this then you can get an SSL certificate.
Even if you eventually decide to move the whole website to another hosting provider because your current provider is “so so” and GD also provides then you don’t have to worry about the certificate.
Simply move your website and the certificate will work easily.
The only moment where there will be issues is when you’re going to expire your domain name.
And in a way this makes perfect sense too; don’t forget that a domain also tells you a bit about yourself (at least if you’re not using a private registration). But even if you do use a private registration GD will still know about you..
But there is no telling for GD nor anyone else if the registrant of a new domain really is who he claims to be.
And that is one of the reasons why you cannot simply move an ssl certificate to a new domain.

Hi, I currently have 3 domains and 1 economy hosting account. My problem is that in the domain manager I’m trying to change the primary domain to another domain which i bought and the manager is telling me that the domain is in use.
Would someone be able to tell me why this is happening. All 3 domains are bought by same user.
Thanks and Regards

@hostel_jones
You are receiving the error as the domain is already associated with a hosting product within our network. If the domains are already aliased on the account you will need to remove them prior to changing the primary domain. Take a look at this article:

you can go to you domain manager to unlock this domain .

@caonima
Unlocking the domain will have no affect on how the domain is hosted. This would only ready the domain fro transfer to a new registrar.
