Apart from Baillee’s suggestions I’d also want to stress out that you don’t need to panic. Meaning; if your domain has expired by one or two days then under normal circumstances it doesn’t have to mean you’ll immediately lose control over it.
So in this case I’d say give it an hour or so and then try again.

I am really disappointed with GoDaddy.
I am having the same issue. I tried to renew one of our domains on 05/Aug without success. Contacted support by phone and they said it was my paypal account. I have other paypal accounts, tried other one with same problem. I’ve been normally using both paypal accounts to pay our other bills without problems.
I gave it some time (10 days) to see if they’d fix their billing system. Unfortunately I do not have time to be calling and praying to make a payment
I’ve sent an e-mail with screenshots (step by step) to reproduce the problem and I don’t think support even checked them (the images).
This is a big problem. We have some domains with godaddy and one of them is expiring in 4 days.
Since we are getting to our dead line (domain is going to expire), I’ve been this last 1+ hour trying to pay. Paying should be something EASY, this is really absurd.
Goddady client for years, never had this problem before. Don’t know HOW this could be a client mistake.
Wish moving domains to another place would be easy to solve our problem.
HEre is the error message:
Oops! An unexpected error has occurred. If you continue to have problems, please visit http://www.supportwebsite.com
Please let me know if you find a solution for this.

Just found the solution.
Godaddy has always accepted special characters (used by languages other than en_US). Without any warning, it seems godaddy’s system won’t support it anymore. The main problem is that our information is already on their database so when we try to finish it tries to use that info.
Solution: On the member information page, update your data removing all special characters (é, á, ã, etc).

Thanks.
I also thought that the problem could have been because of special characters in my name, so I tried to check out removing these characters, but the error continued. I gave up. So I finally tried switching the auto-renew option for my domain, expecting that it renewed automatically, and that was exactly what happened. I’m not happy because I don’t like the auto-renew option. On the next week some other domains of mine expire, I will try more alternatives.

To be quite honest here; GD isn’t the only company which has a problem with paypal.
And strictly personal I don’t understand why people would even use it these days. There is a huge risk (at least here in Holland).
In the old days you had a paypal account and you could transfer money to it from your bank account. So keeping a strict separation between “online money” and real money. Over here in Europe this isn’t an option anymore.
The only way to set this up in the Netherlands is if you setup an “allowance” for paypal. A crude translation but it basically means that they are allowed to withdraw any amount they deem fit from your bank account. Sure; in theory you can complain and try to revoke such a payment, but the risks with all of this..
SO quite frankly I don’t understand why anyone would want to use paypal these days. In this setup its just as unsafe as a credit card. IMO that is.

doubt it acutally had anything to do with paypal. Godaddy’s payment system is probably mostly hosted at godaddy, and that was probably the issue. I had similrar “oops” messages all day today just testing styling changes on my site. Pages were taking literally 35 to 45 seconds to load on my fiber connection. all day like this. nothing else on my internet connection seemed slow, and now tonight I am trying the same pages, and they take 1-3 seconds, as usual.
Not the first time I have seen unbelievable slowness on my godaddy hosting, and I can’t find a note or explanation for it anywhere.
