Upgrading PostgreSQL from 8.1 to 8.4

I want to upgrade PotsgreSQL from 8.1 to 8.4 which must be done by backing up PostgreSQL config and data, removing it and install new version.
The problem is dependancy to GoDaddy turbopanel. If I want to remove PostgreSQL 8.1 with YUM, also the turbopanel will be removed.
I contacted Server Support, where I was told the Turbopanel stores data in PostgreSQL, which is (in my oppinion) not possible as no database turbopanel nor tables exist in the PostgreSQL structure. In my oppinion the turbopanel data are in /var/turbopanel. In other side the turbopanel can have strict dependancy to some software versions, so maybe if I want to install it after PostgreSQL 8.4, I can fail.
I was also told by Support, they cannot guarantee me the turbopanel will run after removing / installing.
So please can anyone advice me?
