To install MSDE (MS SQL Server) on my Windows Virtual Dedicated Servers (custom installation of SQL Server) I used Remote Desktop:
1. Control Panel > Add Remove Programs;
2.Select the listing for Parallels Plesk Panel and click Change;
3.Expand the Database Management section and click X next to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition;
4.Select Will be installed on local hard drive and 4.Install.
Once installed, the fields on the Databases page under Plesk Server are automatically populated. In the Database servers panel I can see “Microsoft SQL Server” line. BUT: I can’t access MS SQL Server via DB WebAdmin AND see Status of SQL Server: “The last attempt to connect to this server (Local MS SQL server) failed because of network problem.”
Can anybody help me?

@olegtim,

Not quite sure why the error would be thrown, but for challenges with your server, I would recommend submitting an inquiry via the Trouble Ticket option in the server manager.

Hi Jason!
I had submitted inquiry via Trouble Ticket last week. The answer I had received:
“I understand that you are experiencing issues with the MS SQL server of the Virtual Dedicated Server ‘winvds1′. Unfortunately, as this is a custom installation of SQL Server, troubleshooting its installation or use is outside the scope of support that we can offer for a non-managed server. That being said, the issue appears to the password credentials Plesk is using to access the database server. I would suggest reviewing the Event Viewer for your server to see if any additional information is available on this issue.
If you would prefer that we perform this administrative task on your server we do offer an Expert Hands service that may be able to assist you further. If you would like a quote for their services please respond to this email requesting the quote so that we may forward your information along.”

@olegtim,

Looks like they were able to review the issue, however support on a Dedicated server will be limited as you have control of the environment. Looks like our Expert Hands can assist if you choose that option. Hopefully some other Community members will be able to offer some advice.

Hi Jason!
Installing the MS SQL Server via Remote Access – this is the only way for users of the Windows Virtual Dedicated Server. So I think that in such an advanced company like GoDaddy, should be guide for working with the server for a similar case conditions. But I have not found it yet.
Oleg.
