I recently purchased my domain and hosting from GoDaddy. My website was installed by a programmer 2 days ago.

I have tried creating my own “under construction” page.

I used EditPad Lite to try to create my “under construction” page. I went into my FTP Manager and uploaded the new index.html file I created. I deleted the original index.html that was created as a default “under construction” page. Now I get this error message when I go to my site…..

“Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache Server at http://www.contractjobtrader.com Port 80″

I am extremely new at this(if you couldn’t already tell)I have a lot that I still need to do to my “under construction” page so I want to know what I am doing to keep getting this error message so that I dont continue to do it everytime I upload an updated index.html file.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANYONES HELP!!!!

Just as a general question,

Can anyone recommend a script for:
*e-mail capture
*count down to launch
*website hit counter
*A word program that I should use to create my files(Do you think EditPad lite is the right choice for scripts, images, graphics, videos, perl script??

Thanks Again!!!

The error you have provided generally indicates that the file is not named correct, or has not been uploaded to the root of your hosting plan. As it appears you are using a Linux hosting plan, you will want to keep in mind that Linux is case-sensitive. The name of the index file should be in all lower case letters. You might want to review this article for some additional troubleshooting steps:

Regarding your other questions on scripts, you can usually find example scripts online. If you search online, I’m sure you can find a couple of sites that offer scripts to meet your needs for those options.

As far as a text editor, I personally use Notepad++, but the best advice I can give is to try out a couple of different editors and stick with the one you like the most.
