Altering the layout? Adding a tab to the Menu?

When someone goes to my forum, they first land on the Home page that has a lot of content. I have links to the forum on that page, but they aren’t very obvious, and I didn’t want to disturb the content badly by “Go to Forum” links. Can I have a tab at the top, added to the ones already there, that says “Forum”? It is not there when I am logged in as Admin, also, so it is not easy for me to go to the Forum when I want to. Am I missing something? If I am doing Forum management and want to go to the Forum, how do I do it? It would be great to have that one extra tab at the top that said “Forum,” both for the newcomer and for me as Admin. My forum is SMF.

To be honest with you, I’m not very familiar with SMF. Hopefully someone can post on here that is. Otherwise, I might recommend using your favorite search engine to research something like ‘editing navigation smf’. It looks like there’s a lot of information out there. I hope this helps!

I realized that my Tiny Portal modification is no longer showing up, and when I looked at packages it was waiting to be installed. But it failed the test. I have another post about that. Maybe if Tiny Portal gets re-installed, the Forum label will be back. I don’t know why this is happening, but I installed updates to my Forum, and I am assuming that the latest update does not jibe with the Tiny Portal package. So I don’t know what to do.

You may want to check on the developers site for Tiny Portal, or on the SMF support forums. As there was an update, it is possible there is an update to the plugin that can decrease the issue you are facing.

I should have updated this thread. I figured out what happened. After I updated my SMF, my TinyPortal needed to be reinstalled. It wouldn’t, but then I found out that I needed to install a TinyPortal that was appropriate for my SMF update. I did that, and now everything is back to normal. I am getting more and more capable of understanding all this.

I have developed the aspiration to upgrade my SMF to the latest update of 2.0. (What I have currently is SMF 1.1.16.) And then I want to choose a better theme. So my fear is that something will go wrong and that my posts and other data won’t work with 2.0, or something like that. But I have faith that it will all work out if I’m careful. I know about backing up my data base and file structure, etc.

Anyway, I would say that this current problem is now solved. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the update. Glad to see that you got it figured out, and I could not give better advice about making sure you have a backup of the files and db before making any changes.
