Blocking China and Russia

First up – I’ve got nothing against China or Russia! But my site is http://www.theversatilehorse.com and it promotes western horseback riding. “Western” features large on my keywords lists and I believe this accounts for the fact that 30% of my traffic is coming from China. No complaints so far but then you see that none of this stuff is is actually staying around for more than a split second (really, who in China is interested in Western Riding?!)and it’s wreaking havoc with my bounce rate which is up in the 70′s.
In the same way, I’m getting a high proportion of Russian hits.
Can anyone advise me on how I might block these countries from access to my site?

If your statistics are providing the IP addresses from the regions you have identified, you can block those from within you .htaccess file. Check out this article:

Thanks, Jason. Good to know there’s a fix but I’m afraid phgenious is speaking a language I don’t understand! My site is written in html using Serif Webplus X5. I’ve done a bit of pasting in html when needed and can probably manage that. Sorry to be a pain but are you able to suggest how it’s done in html?
Thanks for your help.

It’s actually not done in the coding for the site, simply a file on the root of your hosting account. What operating system are you using on your account?
