My site is voowin.com

Im using the java ftp client. After clicking on the java ftp icon, I get a message to block or allow java, I allow it. then it gives me another message that says do you want to block so I choose no. Then it gives me the error message (onnection reset by peer: socket write error) and I cannot use the ftp client.

It works just fine when I disable my firewall completely any suggestions? I don’t want to have to drop my firewall everytime to just use it. I have Windows 7 on my laptop. dell xps 1647

PS, i have a desktop running win 8 and it works just fine without having to drop the firewall.

@vudoo

The FTP File Manager is the preferred FTP application in the Hosting Control Center, not the Java FTP client. Are you able to use the FTP File Manager with your laptop? You should also be able to use any FTP client to connect to your hosting plan.

When I try the FTP manager, in the lower right hand corner, it displays: Could not get directory info and then stays at a loading screen indefinitely.

I understand that the file manager is the preferred method, but the Java FTP client works just fine when I disable my windows firewall. I’m just trying to figure out why I get the connection reset by peer: socket write error message only when I have my firewall enabled on my laptop. It works fine on my desktop, but I need to be able to use it on my laptop.

I know that there are FTP clients out there. However, I’m doing all this a certain way for school. I need to be able to do this without a separate FTP client. Thanks for your help.

update: other times, when i try the FTP manager, it will say something like: cannot find home, subsequently after that, whenever i try to launch the ftp manager, i will then get the “could not get directory info…

The error you are describing with the File Manager can usually be resolved by clearing your browser’s cache:

I also see that you have contacted our Support Team regarding this issue and it is currently being reviewed and tested. As they have additional access to your account, I would suggest waiting for a response from our team if clearing your browser cache does not resolve your File Manager issue.

I’ve had the same problem for a while. I think after a Java update, I accidentally chose to not allow. So I’ve had to use other PC’s to use Java FTP on GoDaddy.

If I could just figure out how to reopen whatever closed up Java, It would be back to normal. I’ve yet to find any help with this issue at all in months.

I figured out out what caused it by reproducing the problem via a fresh install of Java on a PC that didn’t before have the problem.

After you install, next time you come to GoDaddy FTP, windows firewall will pop up and it says: “Windows has blocked some features of this program.” You will think by clicking allow, that it’ll allow you to use FTP, but it wont.

Now I just got to figure out how to make windows firewall allow godaddy ftp.

Anyone?

I took a 3rd pc… both boxes checked on the firewall to allow and now it also has the error.

I’m lost now. Firewall seems to autoblock something in java7 update 7 and then you can no longer use godaddy ftp. :-(

Here it is.. click allow with default setting = socket error. Clicked both check boxes and allow and same result. Screenshot: http://home.comcast.net/~nx330mustang/godaddyftp_winfirewall.jpg

@NewsMan2010

There has been a recent exploit of Java version 7 and it is recommended that you use Java 6 or below. You can find more information on the exploit here:

http://krebsonsecurity.com/2012/08/attackers-pounce-on-zero-day-java-exploit/

Additionally, you can use our FTP File Manager or an FTP client that does not require Java.

FYI – I uninstalled Java 7 and re-installed Java 6 and the godaddy.com java FTP worked fine. The problem is with Java 7.

Thanks

I am having the same problem and the suggestion to use the FTP File Manager doesn’t work for downloading a copy of my SQl Server backup. The only place I have been able to view the folder that the backup is stored in is in the Java FTP client and now I can’t view that. How else can I get to the db_backups folder?
