Dedicated Hosting Vs. Shared Hosting Speed

I recently purchased a Virtual Dedicated Server. Now I have 2 domains: One hosted on the shared hosting and one hosted on the Dedicated Server.
Both contain the same data.
However when I compare the speed of the 2, then the one on virtual dedicated hosting loads 5 times slower.
Is this normal? I don’t have any traffic on my virtual dedicated server. Its just been installed.
Thanks and regards

@weshall

The speed of the site on the Virtual Dedicated Server should be better. If you are noticing any issues with it, this might indicate that there is a configuration issue on the server. You may want to review any configurations on your server to ensure that there are no errors or conflicts. You can also submit a Trouble Ticket for your server and our Server Support team may be able to better assist you. Information on how to submit a Trouble Ticket can be reviewed here:

Pls Check the data center. If those two site in the same data center? AP-regional? US-Regional? Europe Regional?

Because the diffrent of server location, the access time is diffrent.

@Gary
Thanks.. I have created ticket.
@suxiao
Many thanks. I have measured speed from tools like tools.pingdom.com. With this tool it checks your connection speed from different parts of the world. Everytime the site on shared hosting is 4 to 5 times faster.
Thanks and regards.

iwebtool/pingdom still report my site to be 4/5 times slower. Server Support team reports no problem with the server :( .
Feeling a bit disappointed.
Thanks and regards

If you would like to give two example sites, we could take a better look at the sites and say if I am able to duplicate any slowness issues. Also, I would not rely on ping tests to determine which is faster, as ping tests can be very variable at times.

Hi!
Presently I have not yet moved my sites from shared hosting to VPS. Will do that tonight and will check for performance then.

Here are 2 examples:
http://www.searchsai.com (site on shared hosting)
http://www.vishalmohla.com (site on vps)

Although while downloading both appear to take same time, but if you test using numerous online services these are the results (almost with all these services):

http://www.iwebtool.com/speed_test?domain=searchsai.comvishalmohla.com

It is very evident that speed per kb download is 4-5 times faster on shared hosting server.

On VPS, presently on this test site vishalmohla.com is hosted!

Thanks and regards,

@weshall

Taking a look at both sites, I found that searchsai.com is hosted on US servers and vishalmohla.com is hosted on our Asia-Pacific servers. As these servers are hosted in different data centers, you will see variable access rates between them. When testing vishalmohla.com, I found that it is accessed as fast from locations such as India and Japan as searchsai.com is accessed from places such as the US and Canada.

If you do not have any content hosted on your Virtual Dedicated Server, you may want to consider re-provisioning your server. This will delete all data on your server and restore it to it’s default state. This will ensure that there are no configuration issues with the server.
