@matt_wales

I did review this with my Advanced Hosting Team, and the issue you were experiencing should be resolved at this time. Are you still having an issue? Please send over a new traceroute if you are. Thanks!

I just thought I’d mention I have very similar issues to what Matt Wales and everyone else is experiencing. Its an Ultimate Windows 4GH hosting plan.

My Wordpress sites have been very slow for about a week now. Sometimes they load and sometimes they don’t. And just last night I couldn’t get any of them to load. This morning I called GoDaddy support and they weren’t sure what the problem was. Later they emailed me saying they’d fixed the problem, but when I checked it turned out only the front pages would load.

I spent a couple hours today emailing back and forth with a tech support rep, but he couldn’t fix the problem either. We’re supposed to talk again tomorrow morning.

This is very frustrating. I don’t like being told I broke something when my sites had been working fine for weeks & months beforehand. Obviously something is going on with GoDaddy’s service.

Aye, Dedicated is very expensive. If you’re a web developer though, you can design sites for local businesses and charge them a design fee, and monthly maintenance fee, which would cover the cost. Host their sites on your dedicated server with yours. Their sites won’t be generating very much traffic, and should only be a blip on resources expense. That’s basically what GoDaddy is doing with the shared hosting, except you have no control over how many accounts are hosted per server, or how many high traffic sites are hosted on your server. If you had your own dedicated, you’d control every ascpect of that. I’ve been using GoDaddy as a sandbox, really. When my sites are done developing, beta tested by select users, etc… I will definately be going dedicated, as it is an auction site, and it CANNOT be down, ever! One is a URL shortening site, one is a store, my personal sites, and so on. They will all be hosted on same dedicated.

from what i read around here, godaddy simply doesn’t care at all about customer experience. my ftp download has been around a ridiculous 20KB/s, and that for months.
time for me to change. i will discourage everybody to go or remain at godaddy.
they are too greedy and don’t care about customer feedback as this forum shows very clearly.

@hh61,

I am sorry to hear about your issues encountered with our hosting services and FTP access. We actually do care about our customers’ experiences with our services and value the feedback provided to us in this regard.

Due to the issues that have been indicated here, we are diligently working with our Advanced support team to investigate if there is any server specific issues that would be the cause.

If you would like to provide us your own hosted domain name that is encountering the slow FTP issues, I would be happy to forward this information to be included in our investigation efforts.

@chrisg:
http://www.holtij.com

just tested it again: ftp download around 24KB/s (which is “fast”)
upload around 80KB/s

i have seen both numbers consistently for months.
it feels to me the speeds are intentionally throttled. they are independent of time of day or day of the week.
except for my godaddy account i am seeing regular 6MBit/s downloads from most other sites.

as i said: godaddy has been that slow for months. that is no short term issue. that is a principal issue with godaddy. my patience with godaddy is gone.
it’s gonedaddy for me.

GoDaddy has been spending millions upon millions of dollars in advertising and sponsorships, as a result, they have brought in allot of new customers. The problem is, they don’t seem like they were prepared for the influx, and didn’t have enough servers for them all. Now, they sit back and collect about $15.00 a month average per user, times however many, if we use 500,000 as an example, they would be bringing in $7,500,000 a month, minus salaries and other overhead, I’m sure they’d be clearing $7,250,000 a month. Instead of using that money to re-invest in more servers, they keep advertising to get more and more customers, so they can toss them onto already overloaded servers. Switching hosting services is a hassle, they know this, moving your domain names and all that goes with it, backing up the sites, uploading elsewhere, etc… I guess they think that even if they are gaining 2 customers while losing 1, they are still gaining, so why bother getting more servers to lighten their load? I hardly think they are gaining 2:1 either. Most people will just put up with it, because they don’t want to go through the hassle of moving to another host, and they don’t want to pay more, so I’d guess they are gaining 5-10 for every 1 they lose… do you think they care if you leave? I am looking into serving my own sites and just pointing the domain names to my computer at the house. I’d rather beef up my bandwidth package and pay more to my ISP per month and have full control over my hosting. Blackice Defender is good I hear.

Otherwise, you and your buddies can all chip in for a dedicated server and keep the cost of it the same as what you’re currently paying.
